From that pic I'd say it was likelier just a "24."

Very nice finds, men! I've never bought anything off of e-Bay and very, very rarely even go there to look around. My concern is, how often does it happen that the item sent to winning bidders is not the item they bid on? Is there any way to verify that you're dealing with an honest seller? Or do you just have to know who you are buying from as well as what you are buying?

Based on those pictures I'd say it's a wartime example.

If the cross has certain characteristics -- like the lower "3" in the date, the round inner corners, and the distinct way the beading meets at the outer corner of the arms -- then I consider it a wartime piece. The fastening system is another consideration.

I keep getting some kind of error message when I try to post a closer pic of the signature....
In any case, I'm certain that it's printed on the doc, not handwritten.

I just need the socks, Rick. What color were the guy's socks?

Well, you know how it is, Gordon. Some people just "know" things, even if without the benefit of facts, evidence, or experience.

Nobody has a picture of one of these exotic beasts?

There is, but I can't find the name right away. (I hope to God it's not on a scrap of paper on my desk!)

Somewhere I have the name of a manufacturer who is supposed to have made these, based on similar hardware on some identified war badges. I'll have to look for it. In the meantime, here's the same hinge/pin/catch setup on an unmarked KVK with swords.
