    1. These 2 unboxed examples are so beautifully toned, photos could never do these 2 justice, the toning really brings out every detail when in the hand, they are completely unmessed with.

    2. Many posts on these types of forums, are of this ilk..

STUKA 87 writes.. I have just bought this Assmann pilot badge and notice it's left wing has 1342 feathers on it, where-as KRIEGSBOMBERS Assmann pilot badge left wing only has 1263 feathers, I have analysed the 1764 Assmann pilot badge images I have on my computer and having counted all the left wing feathers the average seems to be 1271, this is confusing me, it my badge fake?

:speechless: For a laugh I would've asked for the stats on the right wing... but seriously given the quality of fakes these days I understand the need.

Another type of post altogether is the type where a troublemaker like Prosper takes on some dealer, lets call him DANGER MOUSE to avoid throwing any more un-necessary rocks, there will always be bum browsers of the likes of DANGER MOUSE who will call Prosper names and attempt to ridicule him and his stance, but the silent majority will watch and learn from him. Thank you Prosper for what you have done for this hobby over the years, I feel you must feel like a one man army some times, and are not thanked often enough, but at the end of the day, when I am old and sitting on the verandah dwelling on these past days it is the PROSPER v DANGER MOUSE type posts I will remember with the fondest memories.

There is also the undeniabe fact that those posts of Prospers have advanced the hobby by a country mile for the better. Just my humble opinion.

    3. These items relate to Gebirgs-HJ, mountain units, training to become members of the Alpine or mountain units of the Army, though this particular boy is german I believe they were trained at the Army mountaineering School at Fulpmes in Austria.

A pic of these boys wearing their mountaineering gear can be seen on page 109 of Littlejohn's HJ book, and page 57 of Angolia's book volume 2. They wore the Edelweiss of the Alpine troops on their caps too.

    4. I personnally think there are many people involved within this game who know full well the originallity.. or not, as the case may be of these coloured DF, and many other badges. The problem with life time guarantees is that many long timers will not comment on so much of this stuff because they don't want to start a war.

When Eric Queen and Prosper Keaton did that or to be more precise the article on the Army para badge, one can only speculate how many dealers lived to regret that "lifetime guarantee" of theirs, the badges probably bought by them originally in good faith return to haunt.

I asked in the name of history many old time dealers to please just tell me off the record what they knew of these HJ DF coloured badges badges, not one of them told me the colour ones were original.. quite the reverse.

Ken Jasper had a red one, he liked it, but did not argue with popular opinion. The quality is very good, for sure, but so is the quality of the multi coloured HJ membership pins and in many ways these pins remind me of these Distinguished Foreigner badges. Perhaps if someone has both of these HJ colored hybrids they could comment on similarities? Manions sells the coloured ones as copies, which IMO speaks volumes on multi levels

I have, and always will be, disappointed how many long timers in this game avoid these subjects within these forums, I appreciate they don't want to get involved in arguments, but at the end of the day many of our number are reaching an age were what can be told will be lost if they don't speak now. Bill Stump used to always make that point.

Once upon a time I wanted all the colours, fake or not because they looked good  and if they were'nt still a couple of hundred bucks each I would have bought them.

I have a nice original, Detlev sold one a couple of years ago for best part of ?1000, the one atop this thread is very nice indeed. Thanks for sharing it.

    5. Given the sheer amount of badges available, I would recommend that if the website can bear the load, seperate headings be given to individual groups... HJ badges has it's own database, then SA/SS then NSKOV then NSDAP etc etc etc.

I have collected these things what seems like my whole life and would love to scan through what's posted here, but like the "Great tinnie War" thread on WAF, 5 squillion pages, no thanks. A nice thread of just HJ tinnies on the other hand.. bring it on.

I know, I know... why don't I do it etc, I can certainly say I will contribute.
