    1. Don't forget in 1977 the Royal Mint had a monopoly on UK official medal production, cost was not the overriding concern, but quality. By the Golden Jubilee, due to EU regulations, contracts could be submitted by various firms, and cost became an issue. I remember visiting the Central Chancery about 20 years ago to give my opinions  on the tendered designs for  a British Order, of which there were two British firms and one European company in the final, one British firm was up to standard, the other made a schoolboy error in the design, otherwise the quality was acceptable. The European version looked like something one would find in a Lucky Bag, obviously from the costing point of view the latter was as "cheap as chips", thankfully the  department awarding the contract chose the better, and most expensive, of the three, probably on the principle they were hoping to be awarded it on their retirement, so they didn't want a piece of crap, however costing is a factor that manufacturers have to take into account, rather than the best piece on design and artistic merit.

    2. Certainly with medals issued to the armed forces that bear the monarchs effigy I suspect that his portrait will be replaced on  them ASAP as he is  C-in-C, a role he takes extremely seriously, as to civilian award such as the ISM that may take somewhat longer; based on his mother's precedent, her portrait was changed on Military awards slightly prior to the change of effigy on coins.

I agree. What I will say is that the mounting is recent, it is probable a remative found them loose in a drawer and had them attractively mounted, the named medal is clearly halal.

    4. It appears that the date will be June 3 to mark the 70th Anniversary of his mother's coronation. Given the increase in the numbers given for each Jubilee (the awards for the 1977 Jubilee were positively miserly, my father was fortunate enough to receive one on his retirement after 50 years in the Civil service, much to the chagrin of many of his colleagues). The Platinum on the other hand was given out by the truck load. I hope that there is some selectivity in the award of Coronation medal so as to make it a valued and treasured award.

    5. I wonder if on coinage and medals whether he with use the title Carolus IIII D.G. REX F.D. or with it be anglicized. Mind you as a crusty old Jacobite he is Charles IV as far as I am concerned, Bonny Prince Charles as he is known in popular literature, Charles Edward Stuart, heir apparent of James III (the so called "warming pan baby"), became Charles III on his father's death following the unlawful usurpation of William Stadtholder of the Netherlands in 1688; however the royal lines converged at the treaty of Amiens when Henry IX (Cardinal Henry Benedict Stuart) renounced his claim and recognised George III.

      Any other Jacobite forum members?

    6. From a phaleristic point of view of the Orders of British India have now ceased to exist, as she was the last living recipient of the Order of the Crown of India; and unless there is a 100+ year old St Paul's choir boy lstill living she was probably the last living recipient of the 1935 Jubilee and possibly the 1937 Coronation medal, certainly the last recipient of the George V and George VI royal  family jewelled decoration.

    7. Replacement suspensions are not a problem as at least 50% of UK Waterloos have some replacement or alteration to the suspension, all I can say is the naming is very irregular but not being a specialist in Hanoverian Waterloo medal naming I am not sure if they are always like this. Were it a British Waterloo I would suggest the naming had been corrected or otherwise mucked about with although of the period.

    8. At the end of the day Nick, I am sure what you finally decide will be diligently considered, I, for one, am prepared to help in anyway required, possibly because, scarily enough, I have been a member of the forum for over 16 years, I have a fair deal of affection for it.

Sorry 15 years my maths has let me down

    9. Balkan, I  agree with you about any form of compulsory subscriptions, I am anti  ads, as I feel that advertisers have taken over control of the internet and what you see is often what they want you to see. I am afraid advertisers want more than money, they want influence.

However voluntary donations I think is the answer, a suggested figure (say $10) would not break anybody's bank (unless they are begging for spare change outside Tesco) and I am sure many would hopefully and  happily give a somewhat larger amount.
