I will try some different camera settings. I can never seem to get high quality close ups. If I use the flash, there is a glare, if I don't, it is too hard to see details. Let me try some other shots and settings......

And finally, my Air Crew Europe Star arrived! Sorry for the low quality photos, but I wanted to get an idea about it before I finalized the deal with the seller. It is in very good condition as the medal (according to the seller) was stored in the original waxed paper envelope (which was included). Please let me know what you all think.... Hi Everyone! I have an Efficiency Medal that I have researched and found a LOT of information on. It was awarded to "2204556. W. O. CL 2. A. L. W. A. BELL. R. E." What I have found is that "A. L. W. A. BELL." is "Arthur Louis W. A. Bell", born March 10, 1903, married Evelyn May Chipp in 1925, and died April of 1991. What I don't know is what the other letters on the medal stand for. "W. O. CL 2." - I am guessing "Warrent Officer 2nd. Class"?"R. E." - I am guessing Royal Engineers?I may be way off on my guesses, but anyone have any ideas what else they may be? Thanks a bunch! Jason

Well, all of mine are cleaned now, so all I have is "after" pictures at the moment. The next dirty medal I get, I will make sure to get photos for you all! Jason

I have an ultrasonic jewlery cleaner that works great! It takes off the dirt and gunk, but does nothing to the patina or the metal! Jason

My Pacific Star just arrived today......

It doesn't show anything that would lead me to believe it is a reproduction. I have seen cast copies of Stars before, and this is at least not a cast copy. I think they have both just had a rough life!

I just took a better close up shot of the Burma Star that was posted earlier. I am also attaching a photo of my 2nd. Burma Star that I have which is in much poorer condition. Jason

Alex, Thank you for your response! The 2 Burma Stars I have are pretty much in the same condition. Both of them are pretty scuffed up and have a lot on dings and nicks in them. I had been told they were probably minted at the Calcutta mint, as the person who sold them to me received them from his uncle who was stationed in India. I was also told that they would often clean them in battery acid and that would etch them, etc. If you look at them under a microscope, the details are still there though. Also, the photo is not the best as there was a glare from the flash that I could not control. Regards! Jason

Hello Everyone! After all the reading I have been doing, and visiting various websites, I am so paranoid about the authenticity of the Star Medals it's not even funny. I guess the good thing is that I am looking VERY closely at every one I see and comparing them to known originals. But, now I am looking at my own even more. I can tell you that each of them is identical in thickness, and the letters are the same, etc., but I was wondering if you all could talk a look at them and see what you think? If you need closer photos, or whatever, please let me know. Thank you so very much! Jason

The medal just arrived today! Here are some additional photos. What exactly do the mint marks represent??? One is "SG" the next looks like a lion, the 3rd. a head (or turtle), and the last looks like a stylized "C" or "O". Jason

Type, Civil Division awarded to Major John Alexander Ferguson. He was born February 2, 1880, and arrived in India in 1904 after having qualified in the exams of 1903. During WWI, he was gazetted as 2nd. Lieutenant in the 5th. Punjab Light Horse, Indian Defence Force on September 6, 1918. He was also a Registrar of the High Court in Lahore, and Secretary for the Punjab of the Second Indian War Loan. He received the Officer of Most Excellent Order of the British Empire at the New Year's Honors in 1919. He later received the Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire at the King's Birthday Honors on June 3, 1935 (Indian Civil Service Commissioner, Rawalpindi Division, Punjab). He is also entitled to a British War medal, and is on the Indian Silver Jubilee medal roll.

Hi Everyone! I don't have any reference books on British Orders (just medals), so I am asking what the exact name (rank, class, etc.) is of my Order of the British Empire? Also, it is engraved "J. A. Ferguson " on the pin back, and "J. A. F. 1919" of the reverse of the Order, plus other mint marks. Can anyone give me any specifics on them? THANK YOU!!!! Jason
