    1. Hi.

This is not really a medal or award - just a regular pin attached to a ribbon.

I've seen them in a few places around the 'net. You can find them in Thailand easily, but without the ribbon attached. Here are a few pictures.

      Rgds,

      Dave

P/S It is always good to post the pictures themselves, rather than an ebay link - ebay deletes the pictures after a few weeks, and the pictures then are no longer available by the link.

These are from the ebay auction mentioned:

    2. I agree, almost certainly civilian. I've never seen a Thai military man with that length of service with so few ribbons.

Dave will have to comment on the device on your separate White Elephant ribbon.

      Best,

      Hugh

Yes, civil sounds good, or police. I understand that the Order of the White Elephant and Order of the Crown grades typically come with rank ?

Some people will also wear just a single award as the second item. You see this occasionally in government offices (also look around when you arrive at Thai immigration upon arrival at the airport next time).

The Order of Symbolic Propitiousness Ramakeerati Boy Scout Citation Medal (Special Class) is quite a rare senior scout award - I've never even seen one, or a ribbon, or even a picture except in the government medal books (and web). (There could be one in the Grand Palace Museum)

      Rgds,

      Dave

    3. Noor,

      Some updates:

1 - Order of the White Elephant, 4th Class

2 - Order of the Crown of Thailand, 4th Class

4 - Commemorative Medal on the Occasion of the 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Dec 5, 1999

5 - Commemorative Medal on the Occasion of the 72nd Birthday Anniversary of HM Queen Sirikit

BTW, The Order of Symbolic Propitiousness Ramakeerati Boy Scout Citation Medal (Special Class) has a green edge instead of blue. It has a higher order of precedence than the OWE, 4th Class.

      Rgds,

      Dave

    4. A booklet published in the late 1990s or early 2000s, formerly available on eBay, illustrates all classes of the Vietnamese-backed Cambodian regime's decorations in full color. It also lists award criteria. The Cambodian language booklet's blue cover depicts the Order of Angkor, as I recall. A French translation was available at one point, perhaps someone out there has one?

I'd be really keen to get a copy of this booklet if anyone has it - English or French.

    5. FANTASTIC Dave. Thank you so much. Do you know how old YOUR pin is? It could help me date the one I have. Also, in your estimate, what is the value of such a pin? Just a rough estimate is good for me.

Again Dave, I really want you to know that I appreciate your input VERY MUCH !

      Regards, Linas

      >>Thank you so much. Do you know how old YOUR pin is?

Nope - that's what I mean I don't know how much that can mean to you ;-)

      >>Also, in your estimate, what is the value of such a pin?

The one at SOS was I think priced around $50 or $80 or so - I don't remember it getting sold. However, there is not much of a market for these kinds of things, so prices would not normally be high, unless there was special interest. I collect obscure Thai pins and stuff, so if I had observed the pin mechanism different like that, I might have picked it up for that to have a different example.

      Rgds,

      Dave

    6. Hi Linas,

This is some kind of Thai Navy pin. I've an example also, but not with as nice a pin as yours. I'd guess yours is a little older than mine (what ever that means to you ;-)

There are many different kinds of such military and civil pins. Maybe one day I'll add a section for these on my website ... (And so I'll also have incentive to better identify them.)

This example is not very common. My wife has only seen this one, and she picked it up for me. I've seen another in Thailand. There was also one at the last SOS show.

      Rgds,

      Dave

    7. Hi,

I did not see any copy Turkish UN Korean War Medal. Even the medals of the red ribbon ones are not copy as far as I know, only original ribbons are replaced with the red ones.

The new version of the UN Korean English War Medals are on sale and they can be easily noticed. (pictures attached both original and new - new with box )

      demir

For some fakes, take a look at the auctions of mcstls - see for example ebay auction 220511512238. Sometimes he also has them made up with red ribbons - also fakes not originals with a swapped ribbon.

These UN medals by mcstls are fakes meant to deceive collectors and sold as such - they are not "new versions" for qualified recipients or whatever. The WW1 Interallied victory medals by mcstls are also fakes.

      Rgds,

      Dave

    8. One was for sale @ 3 months ago on eBay. i stumbled across it looking for an early Korean issue Korean War campaign medal (which Turks were also allowed to keep).

There were also Turkish "Korean war badges" made and issued! These were worn by vets although i do not know if they were allowed on uniforms or only on specific parade days.

A box (!) of these also sold recently on eBay. Do a search on 'Korean veteran medal' under completed items and they should pop up.

These are commonly sold on ebay by mcstls, but beware they are copies (as is the other junk he sells) - see for example lot 220511512238
