    1. Hi Rob,

... Thank you very much but I don't read German could you repeat it in English. ...

      I try:

      "An English soldier

      camp cap ??? ???

      ??? ???.

      Prisoner of war camp

souvenir in memory of the World War,

      purchased for the collection."

... Also would this style of  writing been in use during WW2 as this is supposed to be on a tag on a captured cap  from WW1? ...

... hmm - I think it also depends on the age of the writer. German Kurrent-Schrift and Sütterlin was used until the early fifties.

      Best regards,

      Jens

    2. Tach Chris,

B.: "Kriegsstammrollen" eingeben.)
      ;) Gruß Jens

    5. Hi Jean-Sam,

... Pages 125-126, under "Regiments-Erinnerungskreuz", number 02.08.55/5 reads as follows: "ohne Schwerter für Kriegsgefangene", i.e.: (cross) without swords for prisoners of war...! What about the non-combattants? There is NO mention of them whatsoever. ...

... I don't know and that is the first time I heard about. Maybe the swards are just broken???

Hüsken also mentions (see number 02.08.55/2) a "Treu der Division" cross. I know that division unit bars do exist, but I have never seen any cross with "Treu der Division" inlay so far.

... I know three: "Treue dem Regiment" - "Treue dem Bataillon" - "Treue der Marine" (all with swards).

      ;) Best regards,

      Jens

    6. Hi Chris,

thank you for this great and a very interesting story!

.... Then I think Richard Israel Kantorowicz will be honored in a way...

      ... that's wonderful! Best regards,

      Jens

p.s.: here you will find (on page 178 ff) a picture and a vitae from Dr. Kantorowicz:

      http://elib.tiho-hannover.de/dissertations/moellersg_2002.pdf

Kantorowicz, Dr. phil. Richard, *7. Februar 1876 in Posen - † 24. Mai 1949 in Berlin
picture from 1939 - wearing a small miniature from his WW1 awards.

    7. I am wondering what I'm looking at in the blue boxes.

Is this just scratches in the photo? Or could it be some detail

actually on the cross. It almost looks like writing of some sort

      but that's impossible to know.

      Hi Greg,

the same question I was asking myself - in my opinion it is probably a Verteranen badge (or similar).
But still a very beautiful photograph of a participant of the liberation war in 1813.
      ;) Best regards,
      Jens
    8. I have his full date of birth but not his date of death. Do you happen to have that information?

      Andy

      Hi Andy,

      found on ancestry:

Wilhelm Friedrich Franz Karl von Bothmer

      Kgl. preuß. Oberst

Geburt: 09. Nov 1869 - Brandenburg an der Havel

      Tod: 12. Feb 1922 - Berlin

      Eheschließung: 25. Jun 1910 - Rentweinsdorf

Ehepartner: Marie Freiin von und zu Egloffstein

... is this the right one!?

      Best regards,

      Jens
