Edit:
I've just taken another look at the second EK posted. Has that pin been replaced or does it look like the original item ? I ask I have two Imperial EK1s in my collection, (see photos attached), whose hinges and catches don't look a million miles away from the second one that you posted.
David
I'd be fairly positive that none of the pins have been replaced. In fact regarding the 2nd one, I have 2 of these and both are identical in the pin style.
I have several EK1 1914 which exhibit similar hinge styles yet all diffferent pin styles (and several with different maker marks eg, FR, Fr, KO) so I guess the style of hinge was quite common.

Here's another. if you could take a look.
Would you have any idea to maker and what era? Marked 800 just below the catch.

I'd like to bring this peice to you attention and ask for your thoughts on if you know the marker and if you think it is pre-1918 a 1920's or a 1930's piece.
The overall shape looks a bit TR but the back resembles no TR EK1 that I have ever seen. Marked 800 (upsidedown) just above the catch.
There is such variation on 1914 EK1's that I doubt we will ever know all the makers but interested to know your thoughts all the same.
The piece in question:

Actually looks more to be the type that is undecided if early Deumer or Grossmann

The phot does not catch the polished highlights on the wreath unfortunately.
Reverse shot with full name including the A.G.

My own example which was an Ebay pick-up from the 'happy days' when things could be found for bargain prices.
I am not a lover of the BSW style of eagle but would add that the early pieces do have a great finish and the quality is right up there.

Lovely example! One that I would be very pleased to have in my collection.

I would shell out the extra little bit for an MC with Trio...
The research pleasure you get will far outweigh the price difference between the group anf the unnamed single.
best
Chris
This was something I was debating with myself and yes I wholeheartedly agree. The problem is that any groups that I have seen have already been researched and priced accordingly so to find a 'virgin' trio/group seems to be a very difficult task!
WWI MC's seem to more in abundance than WWII... is there a reason for that?

Many thanks for the immediate response
This gives me a good starting point and I'll be looking through all the sites so far provided.
If you think of any more please do add them!
Thanks again

Hello all,
This would probably be my first post in this particular section and I'm hoping you chaps can help me out.
Although my collecting field is TR, I have often considered adding a GVR or GVIR MC to my collection. I'm not up on dealers for this sort of thing so if you could suggest any I would appreciate it.
I know of emedals in Canada but that's a no go for customs & excise etc, wading in with their charges to boot so I would prefer a dealer either UK or Europe based. I have seen dixonsmedals.co.uk and they have a few but I'd like to look around first to see what's out there.
I'm assumming ?500 is ballpark for one un-named? Named one obviously much more?
Appreciate any pointers you can give!

It's already being broadcast in the UK. I caught a bit of one episode where they were restoring a Sherman on the Isle of Wight (I think).

I first saw this badge back in Nov '06:http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/800097573/m/9630065164
It's definately unusual. I can make the following observations:
- All the details and finish look correct
- I have never seen this style of hinge on this type before in either pilot or pilot/observer.
- I have never seen the pin blued on this type before in either pilot or pilot/observer.

They look to be a nice copy. Good for a filler.

Nice group of spanges. The screw-back is superb!
Is this a particular area of focus for you?

Thanks again for your comments.
I'll put up another thread soon showing the un-cased examples.

Apologies for the delay but I didn't see your question until now.
I got the stands from Ebay and described as "pocket watch display stands". Here is the seller I bought them from (in the UK). I'm sure there are others selling from the America.

1) Is it logical to assume that, as with most all other cast reproductions, the finished size (significantly smaller) would be an indicator of a fake?
2) What should the measurments of a front Flight Clasp be? Width and Height, to start with?
Mark
Well yes but I think with so many unmarked examples and who knows how many makers it may be impossible to use this rule as one maker's clasps may be slightly smaller than anothers. This would only work when you are comparing like-for-like, and the maker is identified?
Here's some measurements; height of wreath x span:
Bomber (Juncker, tombac)
25.8 x 76
Fighter (OSANG, zinc)
26 x 77
Fighter (unmarked, tombac)
25.8 x 76
Bomber (unmarked, tombac)
25.9 x 76
Fake?
25.9 x 76.8

Let's hope so!
Here's another... concentric rings are just about visible but hard to see. Don't know if this is a result of the patina. Does the existence of these rings make this one original?

Let's start with this reproduction, well I believe this to be reproduction. It has been said that orginal flight clasps in tombac (with the circular depression on the reverse) must have concentric rings.
It this true or not?

Let's start a new topic to see if any conclusion or helpful pointers can be made.
I will start with what I believe to be a reproduction.

Here's one of my sets. This is the type commonly found today but I dug out my fine modelers files and mini tools and removed all the crap to clean up the outline.

Generally yes, the eagles are separately applied but this is a known maker with the eagles as part of the cross. There are no doubts (that I know of) for this particular maker. I do not know which maker it was though. Perhaps other who have more knowledge may add more.
I have examples in bronze and silver. Here's the silver version for comparison.
