Here's a couple of pictures from my (really) dark days at Depot Para, Browning Barracks, Aldershot in 1986. An unwanted return to bed blocks and locker layouts, as a pad this nearly did my head in. I had last did these on my very last full day of training at DQD, Bassingbourne Barracks, Royston in 1982. I was a L/Cpl and had transfered and was put in a recruit platoon at week 11 (I think). Hence the stripe and (as yet) no wings on the uniform items in the cupboard. Meanwhile my previous Company, X Coy, 1RRF was doing an exercise in Wadi Rum in Jordan, running around in the footsteps of my hero T.E Lawrence. "Oh whata mistaka to maka"

Merv, That is definately RE as stated previously. Incidently if you look it has 9 flames not 7. Modern RHA don't wear a badge in the busby. RHA are very much still around. The public face is The King's Troop, a Battery sized Troop, obviously well known and Mounted. Then there's 1st Regiment RHA, 3rd Regiment RHA and 7th Parachute Regiment RHA. Cheers Mike (ex RHA) Posted a few pic's for interest sake (?).

Nice badge Graham, it sometimes pays to take a punt. As we all know Dennis' book isn't complete and though still an outstanding work isn't gospel either. I reckon your one of the few NF collectors out there that could be classed as almost an authority, so if you think it's a good un, I'll keep my eyes peeled. Cheers for the help with the 3rd Vol Bn Pipers. Mike

I know all the faces but some of the names escape my depleting cells! Due to the recognition of 3 & 6 front row I'm also certain its an RRU (Regular Radio Users) Cadre. Heres the ones I can remember (ignoring RANKS and the 2 PARA guys). looking L-R Top row: 1. ? 2. Hodgson. 3. ? 4.Baz Light. 5. ? Middle row: 1. Whitelock. 2. 'Tim' Simpson 3. ? 4. Halliwell. 5. Billy Newby. 6. ? Front row: 1. Reggie Ebanks. 2. ? 3. Schofield 4. Signals Officer ? 5. ? 6. Hawkins 7. ?

Graham, ref post 102. Due to serving with most on it, this is definately 1st Bn at SBA Episkopi Garrison sometime between 1986-88. This easily explains The Para's where also at SBA Dekhilia at that time either before 2RRF or just after. Due to the mix up of Companies within the group most likely a water / hygiene course as I dont think some of the persons on it where ever Signals or JNCO's so it probably rules out JNCO's Cadre or B2 Sigs, nevermind the PARA members who probably wouldn't attend a skills course run by percieved mere lesser mortals!.

Graham, many thanks. It's great to see some NF related ephemera. You often see all but the rarest of badges but there's something special about that old bit of paper or card that survives when most if not all others are long discarded. Here's my sole bit of NF related paperwork. An unused card from WO's & Sgts 43rd (Northumberland) Royal Tank Regiment 6th City Bn. Royal Northumberland Fusiliers St. Georges Drill Hall Newcastle upon Tyne. Undated but pre 1952.
