Just as a sidenote here Jan, besides the GWL Flak Badge, the B&NL Flak is the only other Flak Badge that I've seen that has the eagle rivited onto the wreath instead of soldered or sweated on.

As John stated, 100% B&NL! Very difficult to locate one of these! I was lucky enough to find a marked example - although it has a hinge variation, the rest is all B&NL like yours. They are identical.

Well, I thought I was a pretty good soul this year, so I decided to play Santa Claus to myself. After what seemed to be Kai's 20th advertising email, and seeing that I could get this at a 'normal' price range (normal meaning with his 25% discount!), I just couldn't pass this one up. Condition wise for a zinker, it can't get much better.

I have one of these 'transitional' Juncker Flaks with the "SW68" marking - in buntmetall. The 2nd style in buntmetall to be exact, with the long wing feathers and breach rivits. Here she is -

StG 51 was formed from StG 165 in '39. They flew JU 87B's and operated in France

there is no mention of the 6th Staffel, anywhere. Shall continue the search..

Wow, a RKT!! Since StG 51 was formed from StG 165 (JTW's information and verified in his last link) and Amelung was a Lieutnant in StG 165 in '37 (correct?) AND this Assmann Badge is indeed from that time period('37-'38ish), just has me believing that this has to be his badge. The absence of any information on the 6th Staffel of StG 51 has me stumped as well. I could not find any info on this Staffel either. Please, if anyone has any information on this Staffel I would love to hear it! By the way, did anyone find another Pilot with the family name Amelung? I did not. Thanks Again!

My recent acquisition has finally arrived - an unmarked Assmann 1st Pattern Pilot. I'd loke to present it here seeking a little information as well. The badge has scratched into its reverse the Pilots name and unit. Can anyone supply me with ANY information regarding either the unit OR the pilot?? The inscription reads as follows on the wreath's reverse : " 6./ StG 51 " and "Lt. Amelung" Thanks for any info you may be able to furnish.

Hi Dan,

With or without the "swaz bridge", both are just fine. The ones with the bridge just weren't hand finished THAT closely, that's all. You are correct, mine does not have the bridge and indeed has the typical backwards question mark catch.
