    1. Sure, it's a standard British officer's four button tunic with General Service buttons and the India theatreShield shaped patch with red on top, black on the bottom with an embroidered star in the middle) patches on both sleeves. Has Colonels rank and you can see his progression through the ranks. The tunic is manufactured by Simpsons Military Outfitters and the name on the inner pocket label is LEFEBURE, Order No. 5335-204 I believe(the lettering is faded pretty far) and the date appears to be 2/14/42. The collar insignia is a wreath with the Kings Crown at the top and the letters GRI I think, in the middle. The wreath itself is circular in shape. I have allways had trouble with that particular font. If you go to the wehrmacht awards forums and go to the British forum it is there under info need for colonels uniform.

Can't log onto the other site. Can you give us a thumbnail verbal sketch of the uniform in question?

    2. Actually the biggest problems for the Tigers wad maintanence! One heavy tank company started a raod march in Italy with 16 tanks and after a distance of 75 kilometers arrived with one operational.

      That is just piss poor!

The problem for a Tiger though, was not only tanks. With the Allies having air superiority a "Jabo" could just come by and fire a rocket. Scratch one Tiger, sweep up the occupants and bury whats left. The Panzer Lehr Division was destroyed virtually overnight in Normandy by a 1600 bomber raid on its divisional area.

      Thanks Gary,

The funny thing is I have a whole bunch of army cap badges, but no Navy! It is basically the only thing missing from the set (besides some more info on the chap) so I would like to get the same cap badge that he had to complete the set. Any help would be welcome,

      Cheers,

      Pat

    4. Bob is 100% correct, the Germans produced 18,000 tanks (give or take) of all types from 1939 to 1945, whereas the Russians produced 55,000 T-34s alone. The US produced 51,000 Shermans. In short we buried them under material!

      Gary

byf, I don't know if they learned that lesson at all. They were cranking out 100 Tigers a month to the Russian's 1000 T-34s. No doubt how that one would sort out over time.

    5. I would contact Holland and Holland themselves. They would love to help with a project like that. I don't think you would want to pay for their work but they would certainly be very helpful with any information you would need.

      Cheers

I have a side by side shotgun made by Holland and Holland that is one of a hundred or so made for the Royal Airforce for shooting at Zeplins w/ special ammunition. I have confirmation that the guns were made and my serial number falls into the range. I am looking for pictures, drawings or anything a all as Holland has nothing. The gun appears to have had rifle sights at one time, but no more. I would like to restore it to original configuration. ANY HELP Out THERE? Please send your reply to my e-mail as well as posting it. (leohamel@aol.com) THANK YOU!

    6. Hello Garry,

Thank you for the tip, i would highly appreciate it when you find the book iff you can look the date up.

I would like to share the info towards the German veteran who was along the capture from the Bitisch pilot in Tunesia. Hopefully we are able to find some info (needle in a haystack ?) as my friend the veteran is 89 years old and in rather bad health.

Here is a remambrance piece (piece of parachute silk from the Britisch pilot) that the German vet. kept all these years after the war. I do not take the line "Neffew from Churchill" very serious but all other ino is correct and relevant.

Cordial greetings and thanks for looking,

    7. Christopher Shores wrote a book several years ago called "Fighters Over Tunesia" I have a copy of it but it is currently burried in my storage room till I can get my library built or i would look it up for you. You can find the book for sale but the cost is very high. I paid 250 USD for mine about 5 years ago.

      Hello,

Is there a possibility to research wich planes (background info on the pilot/unit/etc ...) where downed on a certain day in WW II ?

I am looking after a Downed spitfire pilot from Tunesia on the date of 22 th april 1943.

Cordial greetings + thanks in advance.
