    1. Hello Chris,

A beautiful and very rare badge. Do you have any close-up photos of the shield (is it a seprate piece?) and the sword where the eagle?s claw is? Actually, this is such a rare badge that any close-up photos would be great. I have been attempting to educate myself on these, but there is so little information out there.

      Regards,

      Lee

      Hi Lee

Yes, this is a very hard to find badge and possible amongst the rarest of pilots badges as the Airforce only had 150 pilots...very lucky to find it in its case as well.

The shield is separate to the badge with the claws part of the shield.

      Regards

      Chris

    2. Mondvor,

It's no big surprise, everything (and I mean everything!) is expensive in Western Europe. I don't know about prices in Estern Europe, neither for Medals or anything else, but here nothing is cheap if compared with US prices...:(

I bought stuff from Paretsky years ago (don't know that guy Gruzlak you also mention!) and he never sold his stuff cheap anyway :(

Eastern Europe is now just as expensive and they tend to scope the internet to check prices...no deals anymore.

    3. OPW 1st screwbacks which were 110 USD five years ago are now 550 US on the same dealers site...Sovorovs 2nd class were 2K USD and are now 12 to 14K.

The order of Lenin I would say is one of the few medals to have varied little in price over the years, except the rare types. They are beginning to creep up in price but the one quoted is way over priced...

I'm not one to cast aspersions on others' pieces and I claim no expertise myself. I will say that I seem to recall a discussion (may not have been here, though) to that effect regarding this particular badge. As for my memory, well, 'nuff said.

It would suffice for me to see this one in a catalog somewhere. NKVD awards are fairly well known and documented.

    5. Hi Chuck,

I for one find this thread very interesting, but I have unfortunately nothing to share

      Keep 'em coming

Chuck...I think Jan hit it on the head...I think forum members do enjoy looking at these early badges and it is not the yawn you mentioned, it is just that they are so few .

The the WW2 Pilots wings for example...few people know they were issued and genuine intricate friendship badges are also hard to find and getting very expensive when they do.

Great grouping by the way with that early screwbacks Red Banner of Labour and when they were awarded sparingly
