no takers?
so what happened in 1875 that might merit
a 25 year commemorative stickpin that
honors Wilhelm?
here's hoping one of you has a thought or two.

fascinating!
late awards... certainly better than never.
my uncle david was awarded the silver star in
1995. a pilot in the ploesti raid, this was for action in
Italy. i'm not sure why it took so long, but the
expression on his face in the local paper of his
receiving it speaks volumes!!
i'm glad she was able to receive hers as well.

very nice, rick!
do these qualify as each respective city's
version of the EK 2?
thanks!

MM variation 3's 61-66 in my
1914 EK 2 collection:
61) 3 on obverse ring (OR)
62) LW onOR, dot-in-a-box on eye
63) Z on OR
64) G on OR, 800 on reverse ring (RR)
65) T on eye
66) incuse Fr on OR, D on eye
hope this is not too confusing.
one of these days i'll get the first 60 typed up.

i managed to find two of the band packets in 6 months time,
and both from sellers who had NO IDEA what they were selling.
a very interesting adaptation to the "store the medal, wear the ribbon"
phenomenon....

for evaluating the piece itself, no ribbon. it's almost a distraction.
for displaying - where it will spend the majority of it's life while
in my custody - on a ribbon.
bill's point is well taken. there are just too many oppurtunities
where this piece of ribbon and that piece of ribbon get "crossed".

great assessment of the Turkish war service cross, rick.

i would favor adding silver stamps as well, micha.
800
900
925
935
950,
and there may be more,
plus lots of different positions
for them.

and now we can characterize them as
"innies" or "outies"!!
these are nice, too!!

yep, dave , they are tempting!
i'm partial to the K and Q in 1939
and like the Godet of 1914.
but really, aren't they ALL nice!

i agree, glenn, and that's saying something when
the majority are 98-99%+ condition. this one is
creme de la creme!
i LOVE the moniker "russian horde"!
beautiful cross, jan arne!

incorrigible...
all of you.....
i'm beginning to believe this good/evil twin
charade is really the tip of the iceberg.
good/evil..... maybe.
twins.... NO!
i think it is more like a secret society of CLONES!!!!
the north sea. TOO funny!
thanks anyway!

i missed this thread while at the MAX....
very interesting to see these pieces
side by side, and to consider their
"origins"....
thanks for the pictures. i'd love to see
any more 'TR era 1914's.

reverse.
it is very nicely made and the metal seems
to be a very tarnished, high silver content.
thanks for any thoughts.

got this stickpin included within a cased 1914 EK 2.
any help with its significance would be much appreciated!
thanks,

this may not even be the appropriate country/era
for this, but
what is it?
a cap device of some sort.
any help appreciated!

bob-
i have several crosses marked
crown/moon/800.
i don't think there is the "stigma"
attached to them as there has been
with the aviation badges.

what i don't care for is the metal itself
and the hinge.
are there other things i should be looking at??

there also was a limited issue of noncombatant awards with
black/white/black/white/black ribbons to noncombatants,
medical, close to front line service, with an appropriate
document.
see nimmergut.
i'll try to find the specific page, but it's in
the prussian section (...duh...).
very unusual presentation.
