Very neat patch Bob, I would like to know if something like this existed before 2003? Scott.
Scott,
I asked my friend in Iraq and as far as he knew, the Iraqi Marines weren't started until 2003.

How many men are in the Iraqi Marines?
Paul,
I did a search on Wikipedia and as of July, 2008 there were two undermanned Battalions of Marines.

Hi Bob,
Nice medal. Thanks for sharing. As a ribbon collector, I'm interested in knowing the width of the ribbon suspending the medal.
Thanks

Thank you for taking an intrest in the Iraqi Navy Medal. I took a picture of the medal to show the whole medal and ribbon. The ribbon is 2.5 centimeters wide with an equal red, white and black color and 15-1/4 inches long from the top of the medal to the top of the ribbon loop. I wasn't sure whether to call the ribbon 15-1/4 in long or 30-1/2 in. long maybe you can help me out on that question. The ends of the ribbon are sewn down with two rows of red stitching.

Bob did you get the little gilt stand for it, they come with the set.
Lorenzo
Lorenzo,
Nope, no stand. My friend had bought 6 of them off eBay so I got two from him.

Bmsm,
Just wondering why you think that this is a POLICE badge, peacekeeping forces are generally the Military with the Police being involved with the Training of Local Police Forces.
There is nothing on the design that suggests Police. Would think but just guessing that RUSBAT is an abreviation for RUSSIA BATTALION, don't know of the term being used by the Police.
Just my two cents worth.
Best Regards,
Les
Les,
I had thought about not posting the badge but thought others might enjoy it. Yet, it is still a UN badge whether official or unofficial. Even though it is a military badge the troops are a peacekeeping unit. If the moderator doesn't think this is the right topic for the badge to be in than he can remove it.

I just received this badge and it is a beauty! It is an Iraqi 2003 Civil Defense Directorate (Fire Rescue) chest badge. It is 2-1/16 in. diameter and 1/8 in. thick. Each badge is serial numbered between the axe handles. It has a heavy pin and catch on the reverse. It iwas made by SYMBOL ARTS in the U.S.A.

Here is a RUSBAT 1 badge which I have had for awhile. I'm not sure if it is an authorized or unauthoized badge. It is 2-1/2 in. wide, 1-3/4 in high and has a screw back. It has Sector East in yellow above the parachute canopy and I have seen it in black also. Does anyone know why the different colors? The only information I have on it is that it was for the UN Peacekeeping Forces in Bosnia. If anyone has any more information, please post.

This is not a Soviet patch it is from the Russian Federation era, so after 1992, I think. The clue to the time period is the Rissian Flag colours which weren't used during the soviet period.
This may be a social patch , as I can not think of any occassion when this would be used on a uniform, Interpol being an non uniformed organisation.
As far as I aware INTERPOL is an INTERNATIONAL police organisation and not solely European, I think they are Europol .
Plenty of Russian stuff around, it's all on Ebay !!!

Les
Les,
Thanks for the information on the arm patch. It's always nice to get the correct information for an item.

Hi - Bob. Are you branching out from the Iraq collection ?
I wasn't aware that Russia belonged to Interpol - which is an organisation formed by European Police Forces to act as an Intelligence gatherer for all of the Forces - and also, to alert Forces around the World of serious crimes. The HQ is in Paris and it is staffed with officers from all participating Countries.
I am afraid my opinion of them went right down when they appointed the Sth. African Police Commissioner as their head officer. He is presently awaiting an appeal against a 15 year sentence for conspiracy to murder, corruption, bribery and many others. I doubt if he will ever serve the sentence - tooo many 'friends' in high places........
Mervyn,
It's good to hear from you!!! No, I'm not branching out from collecting Iraqi items. I've had this patch for + or - 15 years when I used to collect Soviet items. I have patches, badges and medals from back when I used to collect them It seemed like all the Military Shows and gun shows used to have all kinds of Russian items on their tables and now you don't see much anymore. Either no one collects it or the items have all dried up. Eveb the Iraqi items (Saddam Era) are getting harder to find if they can be found at all.

Very interesting! Thanks for your correction, Bob!
I had a little extra time so will post the nine classes of Vice Officers,
8th Class- flat (this is the lowest class)
7th Class- one star
6th Class- one star plus stripe
5thClass- two stars
4th Class- two stars plus stripe
3rd Class- three stars
2nd Class- three stars plus stripe
1st Class- Eagle
Excellent Class- Eagle plus stripe (highest class)
Green color was (is) used by the Army, blue for Air Force (it has a wing instead of stripe), black for police and deep blue for the Traffic Police. The rank is the same for all branches.

Thank you all for your help. By the way, what is the 3 stat and stripe one? 2nd Class Vice officer?
Correct. Three stars and one stripe is a Vice Officer 2nd. Class.

Interesting. The stars and eagles are Iraqi officers ranks (1 star = 2nd Lt., 2 stars = 1st Lt., 3 stars = Capt., eagle = Major). But these are normally worn on shoulder straps not on collar badges.
Chris,
I respectfully disagree with you. they are Vice Officer tabs. A Vice Officer is not yet an officer but he assists officers and has not yet graduated from Military College and the Vice Officers have courses and the responsibility for paperwork and office work to the units to which he is assigned.
The first row with the tab with 1 star and 1 stripe is for a 6th Class Vice Officer
The bottom row Vice Officer with 2 stars and stripe is for a 4th Class Vice Officer and the Eagle is for a 1st Class Vice Officer.
There is a total of nine Vice Officer Classes.

Thanks to all who made comments to my post.on the French Beret (Pocket) badges. I took them along to the Military Show in Mpls.-St. Paul, MN. two weeks ago and one guy bought them all. I wasn't sure if there was much call for them or not so was suprised when they sold so quickly.

Medal of Merit in Space Exploration: Established by presidential decree number 1099 dated 7 September 2010. (So new it hasn't even been uploaded into the official Russian ODM web site yet!)
Awarded to citizens of the Russian Federation for achievements in research and development of space applications, for outstanding contribution to the development of rockets, space technology and industry, in manpower training, in research and design activities, in implementation of international programs, as well as other achievements in space activities aimed at the comprehensive socio-economic development of the Russian Federation, for strengthening its defense capabilities and ensuring national interests and increased international cooperation.
Frank,
Is this only awarded to the citizens of the Russian Federation as stated above or can foreign citizens also be awarded this medal? I was thinking along the lines of the missions to the International Space Station on the Soyuz spacecraft where there are different countries represented.
