    1. When I purchased these South Vietnamese medals several years back, I had to buy the whole group at one time. I could see there were two or three with the incorrect ribbon but bought all "as is". I will start off with the ones with the incorrect ribbon.

ADMINISTRATINE SERVICE MEDAL. There are faint traces of gold color on the medal which would have made it 1st Class with the correct ribbon. The medal is Vietnamese made.

    2. This table emblem is 9.5 in, square and the emblem is 5.75 in. wide, 5.81 in. high and has red felt behind the emblem. It has a stand on the reverse side.

      The translation is:

Above: In the Name of Merciful Allah (God)

A verse from the Holy Qur’an which means ( you will find me patient and will not refuse

      any order from you).

      Great Allah said only truth

      Below: Military Police Command

      Appreciated Award

This award was presented to those who had distinguished service in their duties after 2003.

This is added information for fellow collectors who do not know what a table emblem is. Table emblems are used on an actual table by the Commanders and officers in the different units.

    3. According to the Rusty Knight's place, it is a Wounded in Action Medal awarded by the 1st Inf. Div. to the Iraqi Security Forces and Iraqi Police. There are four different medals ( Wounded in Action, Killed in action, Achievement Medal and valor Medal) for a complete set. I sold a set to Lorenzo awhile back. Rusty Knight's palce has a picture of all four of them. They seem to be hard to find and are not advertised for sale very often.

    4. ED-

There is tentztive i.d. of this badge: the Iran/Iraq war victory badge. I add the photo before it evaporates for future thread reference.

      Have you heard any more?

Here is a little information on the 1988 Great Victory Day Badge:

the symbols on the victory day badge are :-

      - general shape of the badge circular refering to the old Arabian shield,

      - in the middle of the badge white circle refering to the 17th of July revolution,

      - inside the white circle two Arabic letters S ( Saddam) and H ( Huseyin),

      - the eight swords on right and left refering to the eight Iraqi armies,

      - the 18 palms on the right and left refering to the 18 Iraqi provinces,

      - above the badge Iraqi flag and below it Arabian hawk refering to the Iraqi strength and pride,

      - the red triangle below refering to the Fao City and the red colour refering to the bloods which irrigated the land of Iraq to defend it against Iran.

    5. I have never seen the ARVN Campaign medal with the 49 clasp! That must have set you back a pretty penny!! I am blown away.

Were these awarded to the French as well as the ARVN forces?

      Paul,

I got lucky getting the RVN Campaign Medal with the 1949-54 clasp. One of the dealers at the Military Show in Mpls.- St. Paul, MN. who collects German items bought out a collection of Vietnamese medals and brought them to the show where I latched on to them. I do not collect Vietnamese items anymore so thought I'd show them on the Forum for others to see.

I do not know if the French could wear the Campaign medal but they were awarded to the allies fighting for South Vietnam. Each country has there own regulations on wearing foreign awards.

There are also unofficial clasps with 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967; 1967-68 and 1969-70 ( information from The Decorations and Medals of the Republic of Vietnam and her Allies 1950-1975 by Mr. John Sylvester and Col. Frank Foster). The only official service bar for US troops to wear is the 1960 bar.

    6. A great group and pretty comprehensive! Can we presume that the U.S. medals are included because they are Vietnamese made? The U.S. RVN Campaign looks like it may be one of the aluminum, uniface versions.

The RVN Campaign medal in the picture is too heavy to be made out of Aluminum. Look in my topic "South Vietnam Insignia Advertisement " for a close up of this medal.

    7. Those presentation boxes must be pretty rare! I have never seen those variations before. I am thinking that the RVN Campaign medal, with the 49-54 clasp must have been intended for the French and ARVN forces? Did the French receive these medals?

      Paul,

According to Mr. John Sylvester and Col. Frank Foster in their book " The Decorations and Medals of the Republic of Vietnam and Her Allies, 1950-1975" on page 45, devices are inscribed "1949-54" for the Vietnamese who participated in the campaign then.

The governments of the allied forces in Vietnam authorized their personnel to receive this award from the Republic of Vietnam for six months service there or for wounds or death in action.

It would seem that the French would also be authorized to wear the medal according to the above information but it would depend on when it was authorized to be worn by the French Government.

    8. Many years ago I came across this Vietnam Service Medal which has a blank reverse. It appears to be a Vietnamese made medal because the dragon is in front of the bamboo trees. It has an odd shaped brooch and suspension ring. A closeup of the brooch is also shown. If anyone has more information on this medal, please post here.

    9. Outstanding quality!!! Very nice item. Have you seen any others?

      Paul,

I haven't seen any other banners but there must be some around. The only other South Vietnamese flag type item that I have is a Medical Pennant which is made out of a satin like material and is 20.25 in. long and 13 in. wide. I took a picture of both sides as the image is the same when looking at it.
