This is a Japanese Post War Fire Brigade Badge similiar to the one pictured on page 120 in the book "In the Name of a Living God" by Paul L. Murphy & Steven L. Ackley. The badge I have is a little larger, 1.63 in. and is a one piece badge and has a wide pin on the reverse.

Here's the reverse of the medal that belongs in that case, I think anyway this is the same one, writing is very similar - Inner Mongolia National Foundation Merit medal, somebody correct me if I'm wrong on this. They're semi-pricey if they're in good shape, pretty uncommon. Though I did see one in good condition sell for about $20.00 or so, it was in a China Incident case, nobody really seemed to catch on to it except one or two people! I was stunned. I should have bid on it, but I'm reluctant to stray from Japanese stuff.
Thanks for the information. Now I have a medal box that I know what medal goes with it. All I have to do is find someone who needs a box to go with their medal.

Have you been collecting all of these badges over a long period, or did you acquire a large collection??
I just bought them one or two at a time 15-20 years ago when I was collecting Japanese items. I didn't have much money to spend at one time so if I liked an item, I would pick it up for my collection. I posted these items because I don't collect Japanese Militaria anymore and these wll probably be sold at the upcoming Military Show in Minnesota in April and I thought the members might like to see them.

I might be off, but is that not the Inner Mongolia Foundation Medal case?
Thanks for the reply. I have no idea what the case is for. I have never seen all the smaller characters on the front of a case like these.

Can anyone tell me what this medal case is for?

The inscription on the case lid is for Honorary Member so this piece dates from when it was used for that (same badge just a different usage over time).
Paul,
Thank you for the information on the case lid. I wondered about that after reading in your book that it could be for an Honorary member.

This is a Japanese Imperial Seamen Relief Ordinary Members Badge. I am not sure if the box is original to the badge as in the book "In the Name of a Living God" the author says the inside of the box has a white cloth interior.

We overlooked this one when we wrote the book. It is the badge of a Voluntary Nurse in the Japanese Red Cross and was used until WWII (don't have the exact dates).
Paul,
Thank you for the I.D. on the badge. I had gone thru your book but didn't find it. Are there different levels of a voluntary nurse?
