    1. This is for two 2009, Ministry of Interior, General Directorate of Infrastructures Protection arm patches.

The size of the gilt border patch is 4.25 in wide and 5 in high. The white border patch is the same size although I also have a smaller version that is 3.75 in.wide and 4.5 in high.

The gilt edged patch is used for officers and the white edged patch is for enlisted soldiers. There is not very good control over these regulations.

    2. The Iraqi SWAT ( special weapons and tactics) patches which I have posted above and any future ones is not exactly a police troop but a unit which is part of the Ministry of Interior Forces.

The Ministry of Interior is responsible for policing and Border Control in Iraq. The MOI consists of several departments including Police Service, Highway Patrol, Traffic Department, Emergency response Units, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, and Department of Border Enforcement.

    3. Interesting stuff - do you collect these or are they more along the lines of souvenirs?

Swapsies or trophies from bar room brawls?

I have purchased all my patches from a contact in Iraq and usually get an extra. There are a lot of different patches coming out of Iraq now. Police items aren't my main hobby but I liked the different patches so just invested in a few.

    4. Hi Guys,

I was going to wait until tomorrow morning to answer the question on what is a Crowd so here it is.

      10 soldiers equal a section

30 soldiers (or more) equal a platoon

3 platoons (or more) equal a detachment (company)

3 detachments (or more) equal a crowd (battalion)

3 crowds (or more) equal a brigade

3 brigades (or more) equal a division

3 divisions (or more) equals a Legion (army Corps).

So a Crowd is equal to roughly + or - 270 soldiers.

    5. This is a Table Flag for the 2nd. Detachment of the Special Republican Guards. It is a one sided flag, 12.5 in. long, 10 in. wide without the tassels. The tassels are 2.875 in. long.

Table flags were and still are used in Iraq.

The eye represents the Special Republican Guards are watching for the security of Saddam, the people and Iraq.

The eight pointed star is the old Arab - Islamic star.

      Above eye: Special Republican Guard

      Below eye: 2nd. Detachment

    9. This picture is for the visor hat badge (obverse and reverse) for the Iraqi Police.

There are two variations of the badge. One has the stars in a vertical position and they were used from 1960's -1990 and the wording under the eagle is IRAQI REPUBLIC. The earlier badges were made in Romania.

The second variation has the stars in a horizontal positon and they were used from 1991-2003 and the wording under the eagle is REPUBLIC OF IRAQ.

The badges made after 1991 are of poorer quality as Iraq had to make their own. Both badges are made in a solid and stamped version.

The larger 2.375 in. high and 1.75 in. wide hat badge is used by the Traffic Police and the students of the Police College. This is the solid (cast) version of the badge and is Iraqi made and of poorer quality.

The smaller hat badge 2.06 in.high and 1.50 in wide and used by the Traffic Policeman. This is the stamped version of the badge.
