    1. While attending an antique show called the "Gold Rush" at Rochester,MN this weekend, I came across something new in the area of coins and ingots.

First is a one pound (16 ounce) ingot of .9995 Fine copper with a design on the obverse side. The design is of the Morgan Silver Dollar.

The two sides are rounded and the ends cut flat.

    2. Mario,

I don't believe the medal was issued without a device on the ribbon. Since it had to be awarded, a device was added to the ribbon depending on which level awarded it.

Here is a Vietnamese made Gallantry Cross with the "U" type brooch. Notice it is much darker than yours and the ribbon is much lighter. It has a palm attached to the ribbon which designates that it was awarded at the Army or Armed Forces Level.

Also notice that the tips of the swords are curved compared to the one you pictured where the tips are straight.

    3. Jareth,

      Thank you for the information.

I'd say it"s actually non military WW2. Either a veterans, civic or school related. Translation will tell

    4. Does anyone know what this flag is called? I know there are personal, garrison, post, field, etc.type flags but I haven't seen one with writing just along the one side like this and with two tassels on the one corner and fringe on three sides. The tassels are a pink color (maybe faded red).

It is 33 inches wide, 27 inches high and has 2-1/4 in. fringe.

      Thank you.

    5. Mervyn,

It's good to hear from you! I hope you are in good health.

I did a little research into the U.S. Military patches and from what I could find, before World War I, the only military patches

were sleeve patches for rank during the Civil War. Additional identification or insignia used by Civil War Union Soldiers

were Corp, Divison or Brigade on caps.

The first official Military Patch was the US Army's 81st Divison in May,1918.

Information from the "Armed Forces History Museum" website.

      Bob - quite amazing - you're up to 9 pages !

I still find them interesting - whoever first invented patches certainly started a whole industry.

Actually, that is a good research question - where did cloth badges and patches start ? Mervyn

    6. Paul,

Glad you are interested in this topic. The only post I have with the Republican Guard Triangles is number 101, Republican Guard, Military Police Identification Chest Badges and in the description I mentioned they were used from 1980-2003. The Republican Guard was disbanded

by the Coalition Provisional Authority in May, 2003.

      Bob

It is interesting that they are still using the red triangle and other symbols that relate to the Republican Guard.
