Is that really the "real" one or one of those lunatic "There Is TOO Still A USSR" Communist Party ones?
Rick,
It is the "real one", instituted by the Government of the Federation of Russia.
But, you are right, it looks like an Umalatova one who has been created 10 years ago (I think) to commemorate the Victory in the GPW.
Both of them display the Order of Victory.
Cheers.

We had about 1 minute of this on our television-- and THAT was from the BBC in America.
I have not heard about or seen an OFFICIAL 60th Anniversary of Victory Medal, which is odd, since they've handed them out since 1965 "on the tens."
Rick,
There has been one officially instituted in 2004 (in advance...).
Here it is :

How about this for a few medals ?
Just a remark : the AFP pic (the one below) has been taken in Berlin, not Moscow. It has been taken in Treptower Park where the "Sowietischer Ehrenmal" is located.

Verdun Medal - Created in 1916, this bronze medal was awarded to French Soldiers who served in the battle of Verdun and in the sector.
Hi Darrell,
Very nice collection of French medals you have here !!!!
The Verdun medal is a not an official one. I think there were 6 models or types. Yours is called the "Vernier" type.
Cheers.

Hi,
This medal is of the 3rd Republic type, awarded from 1870 to 1951 (a record!!!!). It is obviously difficult to tell a date for it... I would say around the 1930s, but for this I would need to have it in hands...
Cheers.

Interesting comments.
Allan,
Where is this piece coming from ? Do you have more details on it ? A better scan ?
Cheers.

I support George's point. For education and understanding, saying "it's crap" is not enough... and may be easy... Could you elaborate about it ? Many thanks in advance.

It is Kapustin (Капустин).

Sounds OK... But not a lot of details about him on the site...

Hi Graeme,
That's what I guessed...

Yes, he said it was crap
Graeme
Sure, same as the Eurofighter will be... when it is fully "developed"... that is, in a few years time !!

PS : When did he fly the Rafale ?

I don't think it's a "guards ribbon". Guards color in cloth were found only in the short lived navy guards badge and in the cap tally, as far as I know.

Kim,
I again agree with you on these points.
Here is one...

(...) he believes that once they have been then it will be the best plane of it's type in the world.
Graeme
Did he fly the Rafale ?
Cheers.

PS : I'm not here opening a debate... just a wink.

I think the ribbon is Victory over Germany medal. (...)
/Kim
Kim,
I don't see why he would do this... It is not his first medal... so I don't see the value attached to this ribbon.
I would prefer the Guard Badge's ribbon... as he wears it on his right side.
... but who knows? All options are open !!!
Cheers.

Thanks for the info. Only in the 500s... Perhaps these are unissued ones from the Mint. That would also explain why they are more common. (...)
/Kim
That's possible. I don't know if others have explanations or theories about this...
Cheers.

They are worth seeing... even if in Verdun they are quite recent, not more than 85 years old .
Enjoy and cheers.

Chris,
I wish you all the best (a nice stay, and why not nice finds...) in Verdun. I'm sure you will have 3 wonderful days there.
Cheers.

I have worked on the pic. (see below).
In my opinion, it is the orange and black ribbon of the Guard Badge (in fact the same ribbon as the Medal for the Victory over Germany in the GPW, and the same as the tsarist Order of St George).

Hi Don,
May I suggest you take time to read this very interesting article about the kaiser's heirs :
http://www.eurohistory.com/hohenzollernheir.html
I think it will answer most of your questions.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

A useful reference for fakes perhaps ?
in Germany: Third Reich: State, Civil, NSDAP Awards & Decorations

This site is well known of the Soviet awards collectors. There are here a number of good quality copies (or fakes, as they have false serial numbers).
