many different qualification badges can be seen on period pics, remember mountain guides with the austrain Heeresbergführer badge instead of the german badge or former czech army soldiers wearing the czech machine gun qualification badge on the wehrmacht uniform.

beside the facts its not possible to see the medals in detail so knowing if they are only copys it makes no sense that someone had Udets medals as they were in 1934. I would say he was using his old medals for making the next medal bar we seeing on the pics with the luftwaffe long service medal last place. I also wonder why he wear his wound badge only on the last pic, its not common.
beside the fact the wound badge on this pic looks solid and the one in the frame looks like the cut out version.
people want to believe. its maybe startet with the medal bar that had the same combination like Ernst Udet's bar so the one who created the frame was believing to have the right stuff. after changing hands two or three times the fairy tale became more real every time.
question is what realy happen with Udet's awards.

see this in the net, the man who post it calling this the medals of Ernst Udet being the property of a family friend in the united states. if so it was not the last medal bar of Udet because it miss the luftwaffe service medal. looks like his medals frozen in the year of the lord 1934 what I think is unlikely.
he wears also not a black wound badge of WW1, find only one pic were it seems to be ( the last one here). so I would say this is something build together to fool the common militaria collector who is not deep into medals. maybe the medal bar was real with the same combination like udet's own medal bar. I would say its not unique so a second man could have the same combination.
what do you think about it?

great, have a special interest in man geting the french legion of honour and the iron cross, thats a combination you see very rare.

the german wikipedia site have two possibilitys that going to both ends of the ranking list:

so an award for the common man but not for the officer corps but
"In special exceptional cases, the Military Medal may be awarded to marshals and commanding generals."
so if a french marshal wear it its probably one of the highest decorations at all

Gentleman, see this pic of marshal petain in 1942 and it find my interest because of all the stuff he probably had he is wearing only one small medal here.

for the untrained eye the silver oxide on the first 3 medals looks very natural. I don't know how they do it.
just touch the silver with the finger and than put it in a box for 6 month or work with some chemicals to get it quicker. suspect the aging on the ribbons is done with coffee or black tea. anyway it looks like it was there for decades.

christmas is coming and so I think about a colonial medal bar because ... some of you have maybe seen this:
Its the most colonial medal bar possible, imho if you collect german colony's. Maybe not the only one but can't remeber to see a bar with 1. and 2. class together with EK 2 before.
Looks to my eyes very harmonius, aging and blur making sense if you look over the bar.
cost 700 euro, anyone would see a problems with this medalbar?

you don't find the KNIL mentioned very often in old german sources but it seems the main difference to the french foreign legion was you go there when you want to flee from something but you go to the KNIL for the excellent payment there.
I assume this man was a german NCO in 1897 and was seeing a chance for him and what he had learned in the KNIL. The foreign legion was allways described as having a german NCO corps, maybe similar in the east indies.

thank your for your input, I don't know anything about dutch awards but was thinking that serving for a time in the colony's would bring a special medal showing you were in overseas. maybe like the french Medaille d'Outre Mer.
looks like the netherlands were very cheap with such medals then.
I know that citizenship was different in 1914 from what it is today but was serving in the KNIL something that was bringing you rights? maybe like serving in the french foreign legion bring you the citicenship of france today?

if he was a vet there had been at least a 70/71 medal on the bar. if he was born as a german and became a dutch citizen maybe by marriage I don't know if the army of the netherlands would have accept him as a NCO or officer so he could serve there for 24 years.
if he came to the netherlands as a mercenary for the royal netherlands east indies army, there were a lot of germans then, he would have medals on the bar showing service in east india.
connections between prussia and the netherlands were very close then, maybe he was a young officer in 1897 study on a war academy in germany?

Thank you for the correction and I believe now to read this also some years ago. Medal bars are not my real hobby, do it from time to time for do something different then usual, for have a break. I don't know if this was the real intention when they start with the double service award or if the first regulation was unprecise so everyone thought it was allowed. Then after some years - you know if it happen three times one after the other it becomes a rule - it became a fact and some official made this regulation out of the common fashion.
In any case it looks like this practise was used to make the medal bar fat - zum auffetten.
Otherwise if intendetd it would have been a present by the government for officier's - also to made the medal bar looking more fat.
Anyway, this double service award comes only into its own if you show a long time service over different times and under more than one flag.

priem is a key figure in prussian history
in 1828 he was a capitain in the 20. infantry regiment ( where most man in my neighborhood serve than) and meet dreyse in sömmerda after seeing one of his hunting rifles there and looking for the inventor. priem became than one of the driving forces behind the needle rifle and the closest ally of Nicolaus Dreyse. this is the reason for the honours you list.
he is mentioned many times in "Das Zündnadelgewehr" Katalog zur Ausstellung in der WTS Koblenz 1991
