Thanks for the leads. Actually my wife and I are in Seattle, WA for the week helping our daughter pack up and move. She got laid off last week so we are taking her back under our wing "for awhile" :-) We should be back home (Southeast corner of Washington state -West Richland) by next Friday so I'll be able to get a picture up.

I receuved a hat which I was told was from the Austrian Police force. I am currently away from home and can't provide a photo yet. In the meantime, can anyone provide a site that I might go to to research hat IDs? Thanks in advance Ed

The leg irons are used by most US police agencies, including US Marshalls, Sheriffs, etc. Looking forward to reading Leigh's response. Ed

Again, I am not sure of the usage of the key. I have seen them on real life TV programs and in training films and it appears it is a "one key fits all", but I'm sure there are addiional special purpose keys for certain units. Ed

Hi Mervyn, I have no idea where this came from. I believe uniformed officer's may have carried them but cannot confirm. A sap would have been a softer material. This is a HARD substance. I hadn't thought of the "Biff". Thanks for the comments. Ed

BRIAN: Thanks for the information. VERY informative. I really enjoy reading about the backgrounds of Departments and their equipment (whatever the country). Looking forward to reading about more when it gets posted.

Thanks all, I was told the first hat was for a Chief Inspector (no organization indicated). The second is Suffolk Constabulary. -

Perce: I would be most honored to receive anything you should choose to send. I spent 6 years in England with the USAF and enjoyed making friends with many Bobbies and some RAF chaps as well. Here's my address: Ed Keeney 1830 Artemis Ridge West Richland, WA 99352 E-mail: keeneagle@verizon.net Should you decide to send anything, please let me know when it is mailed and I'll let you know when they arrive. Thanks again, Ed

Thanks Perce. So, is this one still worn? If not, can you tell me when it was discontinued please? Ed I also have an armband that I have not been able to identify. Perhaps you could help? It is also British. It is red with the yellow letters MOV. Any ideas?

Obtained this and an RAF Police Corporal brassard from a little shop in a "very" small town in Washington state (USA). The owner had three of them just laying under a pile of things and I happened to notice them. I bought all of them for a total of $10.00 (USD).

Part of the FORWARD reads: "This book is for the Naval Reserve Officer who has had only enough experience beyond his indoctrination school so he is just getting his bearings, for the civilian who desires a commission in the U.S. Naval Reserve, for those members of the officers' families and others who want to get a clear idea of what it means to be a Naval Officer........

Not quite sure what you are talking about when you say "I was there on the day this medal was both earned and awarded, and am affraid I may not be of the most service if I obtain this to give it back at a later date, however I do know what it cost to earn. Thank you for reading this if you have." Can you be a little clearer on your thoughts please?
