I believe for bravery and military merit, swords for military merit were added to ribbon ,i could be awarded for military merit without swords also . heres my silver one with swards 1914/16 with field spange

3 medal swa medal bar this one i had a long time, the ribbon on crown order has been replaced by me (hated to do it but original ribbon was so bad it finally fell off) I guess sometime a little preservation is called for !
