Hello All, As a side thread to the one I started earlier in the History section....... Here is a strange Austrian tunic... that I'm assuming is a Beamten ? The tunic is the standard style and patter as the Austrian general's.... except.. under close examination you will see that the tress is totally different than that of a standard general officer's. I have only found one obscure reference to this style tress and it is in a book called "Der K.u.K. Hofstaat 1858-1918 Album". There are two pictures of Beamten officers which have this style tress. The confusing part is that they are wearing 'rosettes' instead of stars for rank.. and this tunic is wearing stars. Any thoughts ????? Cheers Mark

Hey Rick, I wouldn't be so fast to call Pharmacists, Dentists, Attornys etc as flunkies. So far from the thread (from what I can make of it so far) is that they are (or could be) highly trained and specialized civilian personal who are then under contract (or drafted perhaps) into the military service. I don't think you would see a High School teacher (who was teaching High School) wear a military Beamten uniform. I could be wrong... but that is my take so far.... Cheers Mark

Hey guys, From this thread.. it looks like there are still some questions about it...... So.. would attorney's be considered beamten ? I.e. they are not in the command structure........ Would a beamten actually be IN the military service (i.e. go through the training ).. wear the uniform...... get the paycheck that all other military personel get.. jsut not be in the command structure... And would they were the uniform (other than distintive insignia) ? Cheers Mark

Hey Mike......... Sorry about the auction...... but I think it was me that outbid you Ernst I is about the only guy that I'll spend the $$ on for good postcards and CDVs...... But hey.. since we are both in Florida.... you can come by and visit it anytime you want ! Thanks for the kind words guys...... this has been a project for some time and I'm glad to almost see it completed...... Question for you MEDALS and ORDERS guys.... even in the very first pic... he is wearing the Ernestine Grand cross badge (I guess due to him being 'royalty')... but would it have been awarded without swords.. and then perhaps later on in 1848 or 1870.. the swords were added..... And if so...... would he not really be able to wear both... with and without swords ????? Cheers Mark

The final and last picture that I have of him.. that was taken the year of his death.. 1908.... this is also the first picture that I have of him wearing 3 long service medals.... Prussian, Sax-Altenburg and also Saxon ! (who needs to follow regs when your The DUKE ) It was from this postcard that iwas able to identify the 1870 campaign bars and a few of the medals.
