Interesting. What seems to be preliminary designs (Bertrand?) for a grand cross breast star, neck badge, and breast badge for a design of the Rafidain that never existed. Maybe a "Qasim" variety? Interesting lost history.

I think you were listed as a holder, whether you physically "held" one or not. Supply and demand? Recall seeing the 1817 (I think) Prussian rank list that showed all officer awards.

This is, I guess, some sort of resolution. Time to collect other things . . . .

A wide range of international treaties (= laws) came into force after WWII that did not apply then, in part as a result of the wartime experiences.

Whats the difference with taking a Knights Cross off of a Dead Nazi, or taking a piece off of a Former dead leader of Iraq $400,000,000.00 dollar home? I would rather have this piece then a Knights Cross.... If I didn't take it some one else would have.
MERRY CHRISTMAS & Happy New Year.
Thank You
God Bless
SSG Luna, Lorenzo
I have no particular interest in extending this discussion, but international law makes a clear distrinction here. And, yes, it does apply to all invaders and occupiers, and not just with regard to items stolen from national museums or archaeological sites.
You have posted your "trophy" for all to see. I hope you have not exposed the forum legally.
I consider this discussion closed. Perhaps I should lock the thread, but I shall not do so (yet).

Yeah, European museums are full of such stuff.

OK:
MR-381 Captain (later Lt Gen) Ashoke Banerjee, Army Medical Corps. One of the VERY FEW VrCs awarded for Korea!
Also MiD for Korea, but not shown on the ribbon (that UGLY little leaf).

Not yet being discussed here I think. Yowsers the catalogue is filled to the rim with beautiful, extremely rare and very important items. The Transcaucasian awards just make me look at the screen in awe - you could fill a museum with what's in this catalogue! And enjoy the fact that it can be downloaded as PDF - nice as a reference for future
Yes. Will be very interested to see at what prices things go, thougfh the likely designation to which they'll go is obvious, I think.
Sad that a Suvorov 3rd+2nd group are split up though...Noticed that. Criminal. Though there seem to be some other oddities with that group.

Absolutely right, Jim (and enjoy your trip!). We need to pause at the end of the year and at the end of this generation of the quiz to remind ourseleves how much we have learned thanks to our comrades here. Whether we answer right or not (or, like me, often don't even HAVE A CLUE, or a guess), we always learn.
Thanks, Christophe and all!
And . . .

In any case, you still have the nice single "Motherland" that Dave sold originally. Unfortunately, only research will tell.
But many things here don't smell seasonally nice.

Lovely set, powerful history. Thanks for taking the time to post, Chris!

Research request sent out. Liked the 2-6 weeks indication on Alexei's site
Sounds like this one will be an interesting puzzle to sort all out.
Expect closer to "6" ("6+"?) than "2", but it will, I think, be worth the wait. Research schedules are outside the control of even the most reliable research provider. He won these gongs over 30 years ago, we can wait a few weeks longer?

Absolutely! Paul said it! When all else fails, buy your own gifts. No one knows -- or loves you -- as much as you do, and it is perfectly clear that no one else understands and appreciates your phaleristic addiction the way YOU do.
And do research it! There has never ever been such a thing as a"boring" Glory!!!

No recommendation for the "Motherland" and no full service record? Service record may not be available, as he may be still living?

20 to 30 USD on eBay
Sure . . . and I know where you can buy the Mona Lisa for $5 (US).

And you don't WANT to know the sorts of prices being asked for A2s these days (and we're talking UB prices, not as if that makes much difference anymore)!

No guesses as to who the recipient is? (No, you won't win the group. It is still with the recipient.)

As things may slow down a lot with the holidays, "A" seems a good option? Others??

Thanks for these, Jim! I always like to be reminded just how much history is crammed into Malta's small area. A marvelous place. If real estate prices were more kind (with the US$ worthless until November) and the language weren't so difficult (Italian + Arabic + three kgs of "Z"s?) . . . .
Acutally just doing research on an Indian Army soldier's medal group that lives with me. He spent about two years in Malta when the Brits somehow imagined the Russians were about to invade Malta. Imagination is a wonderful thing.

WAYYYY outside my zone of comfort or competence, but very different from Alexander Lebedev's cross (http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=21760) and very un-Russian looking.

Quite a Christmas gift!
I still await Comrade Santa to deliver my missing-in-inaction translations.
