The reverse of the photo.
He seems to have been born in 1867, with this picture taken on 20 May 1898.

Doing what I can to clarify his image.

An odd recent arrival. A token imperial group.
Priest Alexander Lebedev of the St. Sergius Monastery.

All is can say is: Be very very very careful.

Looks to me like a Knight of Justice (neck badge and breast star).

Things are very, very, very dry (think of the Gobi in July). A few super-high end things at insanely silly-stupid prices, other primary dealers sitting on not overly exciting things seeing long-term investment value. The "Bank Wave" is long gone, comrades.
Research? (Of individual items.)
Research? (For a Battushig, 2nd ed, revised and greatly expanded.)
But we knew that was going to be the long-term solution to our woes and our boredom, right???
And there's always the pressing need to learn the bleedin' language, in both scripts, to occupy our "spare time"?!?!?!

Gentlemen,
FYI
Link to online Catalog of Yugoslavia Order and Medal: http://www.kolekcionari.com/viewtopic.php?t=765 .
best regards
waldemar
Nice, Waldemar. It is a shame, though, that not all languages have online translation facilities. While those translations are usually poor, they are better than nothing, better than just looking at a page and saying "I wonder what it says" as is the case for many of us here.

I always thought using ewords "Australian" and "rules" in the same phrase carried a certain aura of contradiction.

Thank you, Ken. And, most of all, thank THEM!

A truly WONDERFUL start! Please, bring it to us for our joy!!!

Does it belong?
(Now, if it were Bob Marley's gongs . . . ??)

Good luck, Ken. And Mondovor is "sacred text" ("sacred website"?).
We seem to have lost some forum members who could speak to this with great authority.
Though I'm not sure we can, or should, disregard the book.

Hope it is there, Eric, hope it is there. Be careful, as they'll be closed around December-January for a LONGGGGGG time.
Scans at your pleasure. Can provide.

Look at it this way Ed: more money lef to potentially spend on Dmitry Markov's January auction (some highlights can already be seen on his site).
Right, Bob. Potential word is "potentially"
Like one item, but, wow . . . .

I have seen medals to British missionaries. I suspect the rules would have been the same for foreigners? (In that era.) These would have been silver, as there was pretty much a "racial" divide.
The rolls are on microfilm (and in paper) in the National Archives (Public Record Office) in Kew, just outside London.
Let me know if yoiu need scans (but with which clasps?).

Lucky you. Sounds like the one I thought I'd captured, but the deal evaporated at the last minuite.

For something of this significance (and value), I'd think you'd want to stick with a reliable dealer, not just someone met "at a show". It is a minefield. If the book and derived career is so dubious, I'm not sure how to evaluate the ambiguous (to me) images. And not knowing the name . . . ???
If you want a hero pair (group?), there may be more certain options out there?

A yery artistic" (I use that term loosely) rendering of:
Top- Bir Sreshto
Left- mystery??
Right- Bir Bikram
Bottom- mystery??
As they're not shown in the right metals in this poor image, this is very hard.
