And with document though not the award document but rather the Japanese "permission to accept and wear" document. (Sorry, it is so big that I had to scan it in two pieces and glue the scans together.)
To Army Infantry Captain 7th Rank and holder of the 6th Order of Merit Saige Shoji, 1 March Showa 9 (= 1934 CE).

Thank you for your very informative response.
Diameter of my medal is 37 mm, not 31 mm like you said in your above post.
Let me fetch my Nuut al-Waagib al-?Askarii / Medal of Military Duty and reconfirm the size.
Also I am not able to determine which is a correct ribbon for this medal and when was this awarded.Ribbon is easy: Blue with two red stripes (see, for example, http://www.omsa.org/photopost/showphoto.ph...ze=big&cat= or http://www.medals.lava.pl/eg/eg2.htm ). Actually 36 mm, medium blue moire with a thin red stripe toward each edge: 5 mm blue, 3 mm red, 20 mm blue, 3 mm red, 5 mm blue. I think the OMSA ribbon bank has some.
Date is more difficult, though the hallmark (if present) can always help.
What does mean the maker mark ? on the medal? This is the silver content mark.
The dates 1909-1379 on the medal ?Maybe there is someone who can answer on my questions?
Thanks,
pluribus
The dates are 1953 [CE]-1379 [AH], the date of creation (9 July 1953, actually more of a reformulation from the pre-revolutionary Medal for Devotion to Duty [founded 1920]). The era of the medal can be determined by the legend, and I think this is the United Arab Republic variety, 1959-71 (actually altered in 1973?).
I hope you find this to be of use and to be a spur to your own research.

The second, a Badge of Honor, #563769, 1971.
Thanks for your help and patience with an illiterate.

Sorry to have to ask, but I need help on the names on two recent finds. Part of my problem is thay they are quirky Central Asian names.
The first, a Red Banner of Labor, #1094346, 1978

Here's one to ponder:
1- Order of Service (device ???)
2- Rastakhiz Medal (device ???); National Uprising (28th Amordad) Medal, 1953
3- Coronation of Shananshan and Shanbanu, 1967; 2500th Anniversary of the Persian Empire, 1971; Medal of Military Education (?)
Much work to do

And The Researcher found this a very interesting one and was happy at the outcome too. Or so he told me earlier today.

See above.
Always useful to look for earlier threads.

He had two, the same two, at OMSA.
Obtained from an ex-forumite.

Was this an orphaned singleton, or have you got anything else to this guy, Ed?
Alas, a very orphaned singleton What originally must have been an interesting group, but still an interesting lonely solo.

I'm thinking Polish, actually.....
What made me think 'Soviet' was the pencil-scribbled Russian on the front. A non-Spanish-speaker's/reader's guide as to whose it was?

Ed,
Which site is the Lenin on
Order of Victory
With trepidation, He Who is Not to be Named, the initials "DM".

Well . . . the Lenin remains . . . and the Hero set still beckons . . . .
Maybe I can 'feel them up' at OMSA???
0 -
Absolutely!
Though I hope whatever comes out is not narrowly (and fairly uselessly) focused on just "military" things.
And it will take someone with the requisite language skills and broad archival access.

As I proceed to get rigorous translations/summaries of ALL the documents in this voluminous file, here is the latest 'spin' of the copy of his ORB recommendation (post #5, above).
"EXCERPT from Order 209 of the 8 Turkestan Rifle Regiment dated 15 JUL 1920 #29, paragraph I, rifle unit.
"I present a copy 1 Army Administrative Section Order 210 dated 6 JUL of this year.
"On the basis of 1919 RVSR Order #51 excerpted from Order #2322 of this year, the following servicemen are awarded the Order of the Red Banner for their combat accomplishments:
"II. Vatslav Vronislavovich Lavrinovich, Commander 9 Company, 209 Vitebsk Rifle Regiment
"9 Company Commander (209 Regiment) Comrade Lavrinovich in combat near the village of Usbekovo on 15 June 1919 while on the right flank of the of the battalion?s sector, capably commanded the company, motivated the soldiers by his personal example and bravery, and repelled an enemy attack. During a second attack which the enemy initiated after a heavy artillery preparation, while risking his life he situated himself in the most dangerous sectors, resolutely and boldly holding the company?s defensive position. The enemy launched a third, desperate attack and advanced to within 40 paces. With a shout of 'Urrahh!' Comrade Lavrinovich rushed at the enemy, motivating not only his company, but the entire battalion to follow. With quick, energetic bayonet thrusts he broke the enemy?s will and drove them into a panicked flight. During pursuit of the enemy Comrade Lavrinovich continuously stayed ahead of his forces and when the enemy attempted to hold the villages of Bolshoe U(?)shevo and Zelim-Karamovo, he was the first to rush on the attack, pursuing the broken enemy.
"Signed 1 Army Commander Zinovev, Member of the Revolutionary Council Paskutskii, and Chief of Staff Shefolovich"
Document verified by illegible signature and stamped ?100 Rifle Regiment?
At some stage, I plan this for a JOMSA article.

It's Medal of Order f Ethipian Lion ?
Nice, though more likely something real. Do you have a wider shot (with ribbon)? Reliable resources on legitimate, pre-revolutionary, Ethiopian ODM are very sparse.

On the Orders Book and his ARC, last name is spelled "Degtyar," while everywhere else it is "Dikhtyar."
I think the Russians just had a lot of trouble figuring out the Ukranian name of this pony boy.
What would it be in Ukranian??

Belgian Friend of Cuba Receives Medal of Friendship
Havana, August 1 (acn) The Medal of Friendship, granted by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, was conferred on Tuesday to Belgian Katrien Demuynck.
Cuban News Agency
The medal was presented to the visitor by the president of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP), Sergio Corrieri, during a ceremony held at the ICAP headquarters in Havana.
During the ceremony, Elio G?mez, vice president of the organization, praised the solidarity and the work of the Belgian friend of Cuba to spread the truth about the island's reality and against the US financial, commercial and economic blockade against the Cuban people.
He also commended her work in favor of the release of Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonz?lez, Gerardo Hern?ndez, Ram?n Laba?ino and Ren? Gonz?lez, the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who unjustly remain in US prisons.
After recalling that Demuynck also received the F?lix Elmuza distinction, granted by the Cuban Union of Journalists, G?mez said that she has been a faithful and courageous friend, who has spared no effort in her fight for the Cuban cause.
For her part, Demuynck thanked Cuba for the distinction and recalled that 20 years have gone by since she had the first contact with the Cuban Revolution through the island's internationalist doctors in Nicaragua.
"Cuba is not a perfect society but it is a star in a world of injustice and exploitation. It is a small socialist island that shows us that a better and moir? humane world is possible," she stressed.
Katrien Demuynck founded the Belgian solidarity group Socialist Cuba Initiative in 1997 and is the current president of the group.
Present during the ceremony was Fernando Rem?rez de Estenoz, head of the International Relations Department at the Central Committee of Cuba's Communist Party, among other personalities.

As governments and regimes change, as they all do over time, vocabulary items like 'bandit' shift. I'd not advise holding one's breath for mammoth change in Cuba, though.

The last document is a confirmation from the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in Podolsk that Artem Semenovich Ivanenko [sic] is registered to have received Order of Glory 2nd Class # 27979. It is written and signed on 28 Dec 2000 by the Chief of the Archives Department, Colonel Porokhnya.
Thanks!
