As we look more closely at our Mongolian awards, we can actually LEARN THINGS. Wow. In addition to the big orders, there is much of interest in the other awards (the last 2/3 of Battushig's book).

One thing to emerge is that, in addition to the familiar orders and a few campaign medals, a lot of the other awards are numbered (and, potentially, some day, researchable?).

Once again, you have to wonder . . . .

I have continued to post here, trying to build a database of images to supplement Battushig's book. But it begins to feel like speaking in a monologue to echoes in an otherwise empty room. I know that a number of our former stalwarts have fallen silently away, some have left Mongolian collecting entirely, others just seem to have vanished from the forum.

It seems that, for Mongolian phaleristics, the transition from magpie-style type collecting to a mature collecting field may have been an insurmoutable hurdle? It may not be so much a problem of "hype", but one of serious and sustained interest? Maybe soyombos can't stand up to swastikas?

Is this forum alive, or is it just me? This had held promise of being the #1 site on Mongolian phaleristics, but maybe no one cares anymore?

I have been trying to sustain life and interest here, but shall quite probably be slowing down my postings. If I seem to be wandering somewhere between curious, confused, and depressed, it may just be because I am.

Let me just cross-reference here my single Glory 3 to First Sergeant of the Guards Alexandra Vasilyevna Grebenschchikova, Sanitary Instructor of motor rifle company, 1st Motor Rifle Battalion, 29th Guards Order of Bogdan Khemelnitsky 1st Degree Motor Rifle Brigade of Unech, The Guards Tank Ural-Lvov Voluntary Corps.

Her recommendation:

"When fighting against German invaders Guards First Sergeant Grebenschchikova was among the first to cross in the forging of the River Oder [ca. 22 Jan 1945] and under strong machine-gun and artillery fire rendered medical assistance to 75 wounded. She took 63 heavily wounded persons with their personal weapons away from the battlefield.

"The Guards First Sergeant Grebenschchikova deserves a government award, Order of the Red Banner."

Downgraded (approved March 1945, awarded March 1990) to a Glory 3.

That is a very useful thread that Dave has pointed you to, but we should always remember that Soviet awards were not distributed in strict numerical order. There is much "variability" (to be polite) in how these things were given out. It is more art than science to attribute any given number to a specific time period. Absent documentation or research, you'll never be sure on a date.

A slogan among US swastika-lovers, suggesting that AIDS is a divine method of exterminating homosexuals. It says something about those who owned this flag and loved it so much.
