Now, going approximately chronological.
Document 1, part 1

I don't know how well these will scan, as some of the xeroxes are muddy beyond belief and bound tightly into what seem to have been really thick volumes.
First of all, while this is four pages of what may be interesting stuff, I cannot get the scan clearer than this. Guess there's no reason to even try?? If this is of ANY use, let me know and I shall try again/more.
Not knowing Russian, and being totally unfamiliar with navy documents, I don't know what I am seeing.

Or, looking at the two, maybe another. Some of which I have but have not yet scanned. Oh-Ho, there's a project for the day to avoid doing what I am supposed to be doing . . .

Year, definitiely wrong ribbon. Not clear which one this is, as many of the medals of Major-General H.H. Farzand-i-Dilband Rasikh- al-Iqtidad-i-Daulat-i-Inglishia, Raja-i-Rajagan, Maharaja Sir Jagatjit Singh, Bahadur, Maharaja of Kapurthala, GCSI, GCIE, GBE (b. 1872, r. 1877-17 June 1949, d. 17 June 1949) used the same obverse (from after he -- horrors!! -- shaved and took up with French "ladies").
I GUESS that one is his Diamond Jubilee Medal, 1937 (McClenaghan, pp. 189-90, no. 187).

And there is no proven recovery program for this . . .

But aren't these slippery slopes fun . . .

Ed, thanks for the comments.
I saw it "in the flesh" and greatly appreciated it, even if the 1911 display is not in an easy place to take time to admire them (too much light, hung quite high, and people working around...).

And the cabinets locked. Have started writing letters to have them find the keys before I get to Delhi.

Here is a fascinating group, which a friend is allowing me to post.
Variously: 4444 L. Nk. David Singh, 117 Lab. Corps / 8077 Naik David Singh, MWS / Subadar David Singh, RIASC / Subadar David Singh, ASC (MT)
Clearly, David Singh (what a name!!) got his bronze BWM in the Labour Corps, moved on into the Military Works Service, and later the Royal Indian Army Service Corps. The once-lowly Lance-Naik of laborers was commissioned as a lofty Subadar and, while he continued to wear his BRONZE war medal, added an unnamed Victory Medal (to which he would NOT have been entitled) to complete the "visual set", especially important when just ribbons were worn.
Efforts are underway to disentangle the tale.

And to complete the exhibition frame #1, some Indian States medals I can't identify :
19.
Indian state of Patalia
(?) Medal.
Ed, this medal does not seem to correspond to any of the Patalia medals referenced in your website... Even the Maharajah's name does not seem to appear in your list... Any idea ? I'm sure you will ID it!!!
Another wrong ribbon, I guess...

This one is a bit of a puzzle, even for Tony McClanaghan. I have notes on it somewhere. I can't read the legend from your photo, Christophe, do you have any notes on it?
The prevailing theory is that it is a Patiala agricultural exhibition medal (these things existed in great multitudes and whre excluded -- rightly or wrongly -- from Tony's book), but we need to know for sure. (Ask me in a few weeks!)

The Order of the Indian Empire.
Companion's Badge. 1st type.

This type 1 CIE (Companion of the Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire) with "INDIA" on the petals, only awarded when the order was a single-class order (1877-86) is also especially nice. Yet it is especially difficult to scan to make all the colors look right. You really just have to see this one "in the flesh" to appreciate it! As with the CSI, usually unnamed, unattributed, and historically isolated, but also nice eye-candy despite that.

The British Order of the Star of India.
Companion's badge.
Other pic of the same Order.
The quality of this Order is absolutely
. But so difficult to show in such a snapshot...

Yes, the CSI (Companion of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India) is a lovely piece of the jewler's craft. As these are usually unnamed (I have seen two CISs and ane KCSI set privately named) and unattributable. A lovely lovely "thing", though with scant history. Yet, as "things" go, . . .

There are two orders books. The first one, badly water damaged (undated) and falling apart.

That'll do it for now. Will try to make sense of what service records I have and put more up. This is probably (more than) enough anyway.
I would appreciate any help that any of the forum comrades can give, as I don't even have names to put on these folks at present. Thanks in advance!
