If we could ever crack the stories behind these medals, I think we'd get some interesting tales.
Established 24 February 1959 to (quoting Dr. B, p. 65) ". . . award persons who rescue human lives from fire, flood, and other natural disasters, protect human lives, state and public property, and fight against crimes and vandalism, regardless of the risks posed to their own lives."
Until 1967, the design had an unfortunate cross-like design on the obverse. The Soviets kindly suggested a change, evidence suggests.
Types:
-- Type 1.1 (?Cross? obverse, silver painted, 1959-??), Low = 10, High = 21
-- Type 1.2 (?Cross? obverse, silver enameled, 19??-67), Low = 280, High = 381
-- Type 2.1 (red obverse, silver numbered, 1967-??), Low = 1027, High = 1232
-- Type 2.2 (red obverse, silver unnumbered, 19??--)
Can someone show the first two? Types 2.1 and 2.2 follow.

A detailed scan of a rather "salty" first variety (B #J01), numbered "380" (and doing the best I can on a scan of the reverse -- those long posts make it a challenge).

Just in a really, really nasty all-brass (and plastic) SB. I fear this may be what is being awarded now. Unnumbered (happily, so it can never besmirch anyone's good name).

Shown above, but a more detailed scan here.
The Ministy of Interior / Dotood Yam (B # D02).

Here's another scan of the 60 year anniversary badge, 1922-82 (B #D09). (And a hard little devil to scan he is!)

Beautiful pieces. The engraving looks exquisite.
And the engraving is INCREDIBLY difficult to scan legibly. Maybe I should try again on Lavrinovich's.

What a frass-avalanche! Wow. It does seem that fools and their money can be incessantly and repeatedly parted?

Shabash, well done, 12/12, 100%

Yes, I fear that, sooner or later, the fakers will be faking anything and everything, so long as the buyers and buying their frauds. Ignorance = profit.

A nice (probably) Canadian naval group. A shame unnamed. But pretty (and unusual) anyway.

Ed: Branching out again?
Nope, Afghan has always been "core", though usually more PRRA than "pforen" stuff. Part of South Asia after all.
Yet, as we all know, phaleristics is a tree of endless and never-ending branches.

Not TOO new-- Dave's Sinister Network? came through for my Divisional Commander a year ago:

And Doug's COMBAT award of an OSH3
Yes, but this may be becoming more common, I think/hope. Watch this space, or one nearby.
(Coming attractions?)

Oh . . . I like these tasty eggses. More?

Yes, very new. Just heard today from the Research Wizard.

I have just heard from my research magician that it may, in some cases, now be possible to research Soviet Afghan War awards. FYI.

The reassignment of the "Azad Hind Legion" to SS command is clear, whether it ever meant anything as to uniforms etc., is far more controversial. I have never interviewed an Indian Legion veteran, Indian or European, who ever saw or heard about the claimed and "documented" SS insigniae. I do, however, believe they were designed, as I have what I believe to be is aperiod photo of a havildar (I think) wearing them;but it seems to be just a PR shot, as the real guys never knew of any change in command, much less change in insigniae.
Will see if I can find the image.

Chuckle? Yes. Maybe. But someone might buy this. Someone new to the "hobby". Someone who, when they find out what has been done to them will leave. Chuckle? Maybe not?

Do you have an address (website?) for this office?
No. And I think we need to be very careful here, to approach the holders of the records very slowly so that we get, eventually, the desired response. Any "pushing" from foreigners will often get a response we do not want, especially if those foreigners are "collectors" (collecting something, I might add, that is legally uncollectable!). Leave this, please, in the hands of well-respected and well-known Mongolians like Dr. Battushig. When and if access becomes possible to do (or have done) such research it will not be due to pressure from outsiders.

Interesting Ed....... the ribbon looks exactly like Bulgarian Bravery Cross ribbon right down to the metallic threads at the edge stripes!
Yuri's is third class, the first class ribbon was yellow with the same stripes and the second class red with the same stripes. At least re-ribboning a third class badge -- if anyone had one -- might be possible?
The renewed ORP uses different ribbons.

No this is what makes our "hobby" (what a LITTLE word) so interesting. In my main field, replacing ribbons is so common . . . you vuddun't beleef . . . but if it glows for Imperialoids, oy!!!!!!!!!!!
Just trying to wrap my shrinking brain around it all.

Lovely things, lovely things. They set a very different artistic standard from the military stuff, don't they.

NO CRITICSMS IMPLIED: But I am just trying to understand the different ethics and standards by which different phaleristic sub-castes function. Is this sort of "restoration" seen as OK (= kosher) in Imperial German circles? This sort of thing would get Imperial British medal collectors all a-twitter, in a major way.
Always curious . . . .

(And what a delightful [incorrect] name!)
Just as a link to Yuri Yashnev's site on ОРДЕН ДРАГОЦЕННОГО ЖЕЗЛА:
