    1. I am very glad to see this. We have, collectively, started to weave together some very good post-Battushig information on Mongol awards. Now we can do so all in one place, in a corner where we can keep out thoughts straight(er) -- except regarding the Order of the Polar Star where atraight thoughts are elusive. Thanks to the Big Boss for doing this and thanks to us for making it necessary!

    2. OK, I am still trying to sort these Mongolian things out, and losing, badly. In my latest effort, I have tried to come up with a sort of "checklist", by type, by serial numbers, and by date. This is VERY preliminary and I am sure very wrong in places. But I have reached a critical mass of confusion and wanted to share this delightful state with the brotherhood here.

      Help!!!!!!!!!!!

      Get the checklist: http://faculty.winthrop.edu/haynese/Mongol...20checklist.pdf

      (Cannot upload it here, sorry.)

    3. beautiful awards. I bet that these beauties are expenisive as heck!

An :off topic: question... Did mongolia have guards units, where the members wore guards badges simular to that of the Soviets?

      Regards

      Paul

While I'm not sure this answers your question, Paul, no such badges are shown in Battushig's fine book.

    4. 55829 R Petty Officer Topass Sohan Lal, Indian Navy

Not super uncommon (except in so far as all naval groups are not common), but a nice group.

      1- Poorvi Star - 55820 TOP IIS. LAL, I.N.

      2- Sangram Medal - 55820 TOP II S. LAL, I.N.

      3- 25th Independence - 55820 TOP-II. S. LAL, I.N.

      4- 20-Year - 55820 R PO TOP. S. LAL, IN

      5- 9-Year - 55829 R PO TOP SOHAN LAL, IN

Dipped, unfortunately, but that "stylish" abomination is common.

    5. 95579 Rifleman Ujir Mall, 2/9th Gurkha Rifles

      1- The Indian Independence Medal, 1947 - 96579 RFN. UJIR MALL, 9 G.R.

      2- 1939-45 Star - 95579 RFN. UJIR MALL, 9 G.R.

      3- Pacific Star - 95779 RFN. UJIRMALL, 9 G. R.

      4- The War Medal, 1939-45 - 95579 RFN. UJIRMALL, 9 G.R.

Captured in Singapore, February 1942. He is shown as missing in the POW rolls (but with regt. # 95379), but almost surely became a POW. The battalion is reported to have gone only about 10% INA. Battalion re-raised 1 June 1946, of which he was apparently a part.

    6. There were three clasps:

      1- Taku Forts (mainly Naval)

2- Defence of Legations (immensely rare, as you may surmise)

      3- Relief of Pekin

It was awarded in silver to combat troops and in bronze to non-combatants, mainly "followers" in the Indian Army.

      A "type collection":

      1- 147 Sepoy Sheo Narain Alwar I. S. Infy.

2- RELIEF OF PEKIN - 119 Sapper Niamakullah Be S & M (also shown above)

      3- bronze - 388 Syce Kumar, 3d Q. O. Bo Lt Cavy

4- bronze - RELIEF OF PEKIN - Grass Cutter Tirkha 1st Bl Lcrs
