looks like someone took a nice old signet ring and slapped a cheaply made enameled patriotic iron cross on it. whoever wore it was pretty rough on it. i like the design of the gold ring, though!

i had a quick peek at the rest of the stuff--pretty cool! there were service records, letters, documents, pics, accounts of d-day, guy (a radioman) calling in air support at the very beginning of the battle of the bulge, etc. etc.. overall a large and detailed amount of paper, passbooks, i.d.'s. and more... swords, armbands, and a few holstered pistols as well.

my neighbor is going to be gone for two months and he asked me to keep an eye on his place and water his plants, grab his mail and pay utility bills, so i suppose the buckle was a kind of payment.

yup, i was raking leaves in the yard and the neighbor came over and handed it to me. his father participated in the normandy invasion, the battle of the bulge, other places, and was posted in berlin after the war. there are other things as well, but i advised him to keep all of the records, paperwork, photographs, etc. together and in the family.

funny thing is, i don't even collect buckles nor 3rd reich.

this one is aluminum and extremely light weight. a beauty!!

i seem to be having some luck with free buckles lately! i was home from work, and my neighbor gave me this...it's in virtually brand new condition.

i don't have the second edition, and the pics provided are too poor. the '9' on the 1914 is a clue, though...

i have a hessian war honor decoration in iron with the same type of reverse setup, and have absolutely no problem with it.

he must be the finest sniper in the entire axis contingent--he doesn't even need a scope!

good one-- i've always liked examples that have sentimental messages engraved on the back. unique!

if i remember correctly the neck cross grade was worn until 1925 or so--and after that, this grade was issued as a pinback.
