based on the general condition of the item, i'd say that this piece was actually worn-perhaps either on stage or on a film set. the dings and dents are pretty much were they should be

this one has a three--piece second class cross instead of a first class. tiny planchets w/prongs were soldered onto reverse of iron cross frame, which were threaded thru the star and backing disc. construction reminds me of certain meybauer items.

just an update:
have been in contact with the owner of this item and he seemed geniunely shocked/perturbed by the bad news--
but to his credit, he has informed me he intends to assume shipping costs, which speaks volumes towards his character, imo.

thank you SPM for corrobating my thoughts. i was thinking the same thing!
one further point that needs to be made is that the heads of the serpents on the caduceus(sp?) for this example do not match the ones i have seen depicted in images of 'original' ones.

p.s. i googled this name and found a document from the duchy of luxembourg in both german and french dated 18 of may 1878 which mentions him. he seems to have been a teacher or some sort of educator/academic.

hello all,
i got this in this week (with a two-week return policy) and i must say that i am extremely sceptical of it's authenticity. does anyone have images of a documented original piece? thies had one of these up for auction (#34) last year, but i could not find a pic. further images that i have managed to find have been very poor.
the original item is supposed to be made of oxidised bronze...
anyhow, here are some pics. i welcome any opinions-thanks!

I got this little CDV recently.
Taken in 1900 in Coburg, is it possible that the last medal is a Saxe- Coburg long service medal?
Help? What is that third medal?
ulsterman,
it could be from the saxon 'association of honorably discharged military'

yep, that problematic spot looks to be a jr. stalagtite in the making. hopefully it's softish and not as crusty as it seems in the pics.

i've always considered the remaining item in question (#1) to be a war donation or 'kriegsspende' type of item. i have a pinback version somewhere.
