Super ersatz tripod view. Do you know dates of when these came into service Andy?

That British compass was so good this pattern remained in service issue up until the 1980s. I don't know what the German WWI equivalent was, or how good/effective, but it is obvious that the British issue version was well thought of and 're-circulated'. Does anybody have the German standard compass example for visual comparison?

Re-energising the Maxim threads. Still a monster for two!

As you are not looking for 1918 examples Chris then please let me know when you find a spare T Gewehr!

MG08/15 alterations/additions:
Water release valve, anti aircraft stem on the water jacket, feed block, sights, butt stock oil bottle and sometimes the bipod fitting to the front of the water jacket.

Larry thanks - great photos. Like the one with the top cover up. Do you ever see any WWI or inter-war MG 'stuff' in Australia?

Rarely seen indirect fire sight fitted.

I think we would all agree the anti-aircraft configuration looks amazing - but I have seen no records yet of its stability or effectiveness. The gunner would have to rotate around the sled avoiding legs etc whereas in WWI the MG08 attached to a single post seems more useful.

Although the bayonet purists would laugh at me - I am looking for 2 excellent examples of a standard issue bayonet, and frog that was used to a standard rifleman of 1916 and a machine gunner of the same period. Hopefully two differing variants. Does that help?
Thanks

By the beginning of WWII, MG08's and sometimes the sleds were restricted to Coastal Defences, fixed forts and concrete defences, occupied city 'ordnance' and last ditch home defence.

Also the trommel drum bracket was re-designed.
