A few more images. Interesting trigger assembly and some close ups of the top cover 'holding open' device.

Some random observations for this piece. Underneath and alongside the normal zf mount there are the mounting holes for the main naval/zeppelin sight stem.
The graticles on the side of the sight stem is a superb idea and I am suprised this was never thought of as standard. and the following picture shows the original mounting and the added sled mounting.

You may find what you are looking for on page 20 or 21 of the MG photo album...

Chris thanks - great photos but I need to show the Naval MG08 converted to fit a sled. I have a good image of it on the trench mount but will add some images shortly of the super very well made 'traditional maxim sight stem/drum'

Chris a wonderful collection. Is the lewis a 'captured by Germans' example?
As ths thread is really blossoming and you and the moderator team are re-structuring is it worth putting the other MG08 and 08/15 posts into this one, making anything ground MG in one place. The thread with MG images perhaps could remain stand alone?

Now 2 is a bit much when you only need one per gun!!!!! What are you going to do with the second one?

Ok. In the USA there was an 08/15 mounted on a sled on what was described as a period sled fitting to take the MG. This has yet to be verified so thought as you are repeatedly finding lovely pieces before me you had located such an item.

CCJ that is an excellent start and not to be underestimated. Uniforms are not cheap. Nor are the reference books!!!

is this a photo Chris or repro or original? The are some MG carts in France in various states of repair but no one has revealed they have an ammo cart. Excellent image nonetheless.

Nice boxes and the large 'carry 8' is a super find. I wonder how many of those ended up as fire wood for the winter in the trench. Some of the standard 250 rd wooden ammo boxes are tin lined and other wooden ones not, but i have yet to pin down what was the colour INSIDE the standard 250 rd tin ammo box. Anybody have a superbly mint example that shows the inside well?

Also the actual straps - how to identify WWI from WWII?
Thanks

Sticking to the thread Allied gear/kit in German hands here are a few images. Captured German kit in Allied hands is in a different thread.

More to follow. Did the moderators decide on whether 'all aspects German 1WK MG' should all be captured in this one thread? I know I have started individual threads on MG but I am happy if you are.
