    1. Hi Paul, RE: Removal of the TeNo Cog Wheel after their transition to the SS Type Collar Tab Insignia [on June 1, 1943] The Simple answer is No, ...but I am still finding more 'late war' fotos of TN Officers without the Cog Wheel on their pre-June 1, 1943 "Classic TeNo" Collar Tabs. [so, there is no doubt that this practice existed & did so over a wide range of locations. Don't know if it was "Official" or not. My 'bet' is that it was Official - but, there is no proof yet. I have Not been able to locate TeNo the archival information for 1943-1945, but I have some leads. [Attached is an example of the "No Cogs" from a Lehrgang class foto at the TeNo Reichsschule Belzig] Best, ... Dave / dblmed
    2. TN-Ranks-Chart - 4.1940 - - - 30.5.1943 Hi nesredep / Morten, You had asked about the TeNo ranks, a while ago. (I am a little slow in responding!) Here is the April, 1940 - May 30, 1943 TeNo RANK CHART, showing the Shoulder Board Designations. ...Txs, ...Dave/dblmed
    3. Buy the Book as a reference! "Deutsche Polizei-Uniformen" - by Dieter Deuster - if you have a general interest in the Polizei branches (& especially if you are interested in the SCHUMA or the TeNo (Technische Nothilfe.) It really clears up a lot of previously unknown, or confusing, information - & the bibliography leads you to the original source, for a further detailed study of the regulations. I bought my copy on German ebay [ ebay.de ] YES - it is in German, but you don't need to speak German to enjoy the tables (tafels) and photos. I'm slowly translating my copy, [ Babelfish! ] as I find this book to be that worthwhile!... Txs, Dave/dblmed
    4. Dieter Deuster's book "Deutsche Polizei-Uniformen" - shows the various Schuma: Sleeve Patches - Cap Patches - & - National 'Identity' Kokardes - - - from bottom to top. The SD SCHUMA is again on the Right side of the table. Deuster omits the Schuma Feuerschutzpolizei sleeve patch (but perhaps he ran out of room on the page?) The Ukrainian Kokarde is on the far upper right - & it echos the 'Yellow & Blue' colors of the sleeve patch on Gordon's SCHUMA tunic. ...Txs, Dave/dblmed
    5. - Ukrainian SCHUMA Tunic - Gordon, ..... Your Ukrainian SCHUMA Tunic has my head spinning, because it is so very special(!) I've spent a great deal of time admiring it... Schuma tunics came in a variety of configurations - from using recylcled prior Baltic Uniforms - to - Allgemeine SS Uniforms (with a blue cuff & collar added on) - to - the various models of Polizei Uniforms (& probably some other types, which I am forgetting!) Your tunic started off its life as a super SchuPo (Schutzpolizei) tunic, with all of that outstanding Green Piping at the collar, vertical button line & above the 'chocolate' cuffs. It was then shipped OST - where it was issued to the SCHUMA Police, and it was kitted out for an SD / Sicherheitspolizei Schuma man, of the rank of Vizekorporal. The SCHUMA Officers & Men assigned to the SD wore 'Black' - Like their parent SD - using black collar tabs; black shoulder boards & black sleeve patch (with some differences between ranks): • Shoulder Boards - EM/NCO's wore black Shoulder Boards with green piping - & - Officers wore black Shoulder Boards with silver / Aluminum thread piping - both having prominent white Swastikas. • Sleeve Patches - EM/NCO's wore the black sleeve patch, which used grey/off-white thread for the Schuma 'Emblem.' Officers wore a black sleeve patch, which used silver / Aluminum thread for the Schuma 'Emblem.' (I have also seen one SD Schuma Officer sleeve patch which was made using silver bullion.) • Collar Tabs / Patches - were black & could be either an Long parallelogram shape - or - a Short parallelogram shape - more "SS-Like." (This was new information which I learned from reading Dieter Deuster's recently published book "Deutsche Polizei-Uniformen." Your tunic's Collar Tabs / Patches are exquisite & they 'push the envelope' - in that they even have Green Piping around the edges! (Since the SD used green as their unterlage / underlay, then this fits in perfectly.) Everything about your Ukrainian SCHUMA Tunic is just outstanding, IMO(!) CONGRATS.... Below is a partial table from Deuster's book. It gives a very nice overview of the various Collar Tabs & Shoulder Boards - with your SD man being the 2nd from the right (& the 'alternate' form of using the smaller Collar Tabs [such as yours] is shown below.). ...Txs, Dave/dblmed
    6. Gordon - CONGRATS ! You have a totally "Jaw Dropping" Schuma Tunic! It's a WOW.... This is the type of Item which is so very rarely seen - Thanks! I need to study it more & then make some comments. 1) Are there Any Polizei - or - other Type Markings inside of it? 2) Your loose button problem is solved - I have some Original Thread for you. PM / Email me & I'll mail it to you. Your SCHUMA Tunic is way too beautiful, to not be buttoned up! ...... Txs, Dave/dblmed

    12. Schuma Related Polizei / SS Document - 1943 - #1 I've been able to acquire a Schuma Related Polizei / SS Document - from 1943. The following is the Dealer's description: ".... Document of Fritz Träger, SS-Sturmbannführer Waffen-SS / Major Rural Police / Ukrainian Volunteers Unit - Schutzmannschafts Bataillon 143-146. 19. Norwegian Frontfighter Medal - Frontkjempermerket - in a New Publication I came across this fantastic Posting about the Norge / Norwegian Frontfighter Medal - Frontkjempermerket on the Samlerforumet.net WebSite. http://forum.samlerf....8881051&t=5179 We live in an amazing time, when an Italian Militaria Magazine, "Uniformi & Armi," has an outstanding Article about the quite rare Norwegian Frontfighter Medal - Frontkjempermerket! Norwegian collectors opened up their personal 'treasure trove' of previously unseen Frontkjempermerket Medals, Miniatures, Documents, Uniforms & Publications for the distinguished researcher & author, Hugh Page Taylor, to assist him in his writing of this exceptional Article! (We've become accustomed to Taylor's outstanding writing & his attention to historical details - including annotated footnote references, in his latest book, "German Police, Vol. 2" by Bender. Link: http://www.bender-pu....oliceVol2.html The Norwegian Collectors posted ALL of the "Uniformi & Armi" pages of this quite special article (in a size in which the Print can not easily be read - so, I don't imagine that any 'copyright' problems exist.) There are a number of complementary Postings to be read on the Norwegian site. I will post only some of the pages from the article in the December 2009 "Uniformi & Armi" issue, so that you can appreciate the fine detail of the Images & the superb Color printing! Amazing information is presented. Here is the LINK for the Publisher of "Uniformi & Armi": http://www.tuttostoria.it You may wish to obtain your own copy for reference. One doesn't need to speak Italian, in order to enjoy this article. Images are International & these are really exceptional. "Uniformi & Armi" certainly sets a very high standard for Militaria magazines, IMO. With Computer translation programs (like Babelfish & Babylon) we 'non-native' speakers, can appreciate the content of these exceptional International Publications and Postings. This is a wonderful age in which to be a Collector! ...Txs, Dave/dblmed
    20. Thanks MIKE (!) That is one fine conditioned Rebreather 'Gas Mask' / Heeresatmer Backpack unit! Seeing your fotos of the WHOLE UNIT in the box (with tools!) & then opened up, really gives a good feel for what was really a pretty "High-Tech" apparatus for the early 1940's! I'm sure that many Luftschutz and Feuerschutz Museums in Germany today - would love to have an example as nice as yours, to display! Good Going! Never know what you are going to 'uncrate' / pull out, of that wonderful TR Collection! The Germans were on the leading edge of Gasschutz & Luftschutz technology - because their leadership had some idea of what lay ahead. (Plus, it seems that "Every" German soldier, is pictured with the cannister Gas Mask! So - how many Million of those cannister Gas Masks were manufactured for the Wehrmacht & 'Zivil' use? My 'guess' would be Probably > 10,000,000 + ! As just another part of the anticipated "Gas War / Air (Raid) War" - a special magazine came out in 1931 - "Gasschutz und Luftschutz", or called GuL. It is very fortune for us as collectors, that the German Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe has a WebSite & they have archived (in PDF's) - ALL of the GuL Issues from 1931-1945! Download for FREE, here: http://www.bbk.bund.....html__nnn=true Interesting information, which is like a 'Time Capsule' to read through! THANKS for sharing, MIKE - a "Unique" Item(!) ....Dave/dblmed
    21. TN.-Oberscharführer Shoulder Boards (Posted for CAMONUT) - Show are 2 very nice examples of the TN Ranking (in effect 1 Dec. 1936 - 1 April 1940) for a TN.-Oberscharführer. The shown examples have the 'Integral' Yellow Loop Tresse, which was sewn into place at the time that the Shoulder Boards were made. (This is confirmed by finding no Tresse exposed on the Reverse.) There are other examples in which the Yellow Loop is just slipped onto the Shoulder Board & either hand, or machine, sewn into place. (Yellow is visible on the Reverse, in this type.) The slip on types are believed to have been for 'field upgrades' / promotions, from the existing rank of TN.-Scharführer. This style TN Shoulder Board also varies quite a bit in length, depending upon the manufacturer. It is not unusual to find 2 different length Shoulder Boards on the same TN Uniform. The slight 'Yellow / Goldene" Loop / Tresse coloration differences are also shown nicely on these 2 boards. The color differences are felt to be the result of either extended sunlight exposure - or - a different manufacturer (or Both!) Super TeNo • TN Insignia Examples! Thanks for Sharing Them...
