About the fuse: YES, a KZ 14 n. A. (late type in zink).
Be careful with the stick grenades. If there is some of the filling left in it or if it smells strange, dont' touch it. It is toxic!

Thanks Chip, I know. Do you know the owner of the lamp, because I need some detail shots?

Thanks for your informations. Do you think it is a period item? As I know Souval made 3. Reich medals after the war too.

In my opinion this cross is original. What do you think and any ideas about the maker?

The model 1909 was used at Verdun, but designated as "13 cm Kanone 09". Its construction was far from obsolete; it was a modern gun with a long range. I thought there was an old 18whatever gun with the same caliber, you were talking about. The 13 cm 09 was used during the conmplete war and its only problem was its heavy weight. See my post here:

SCHARKOPF
Karl
06.09.1916 Longueval
Inf.Reg.88
Seems to be a relative to the other Scharkopf, who died in WW2 and is listed in the Volksbund database. IR 88 was from Mainz too (and Hanau). Would be a strange coincidence, that a guy with that not very common name, appears in connection with IR 117 (from Mainz) and IR 88 (also Mainz). I have a new theory. THIS is YOUR Scharkopf. He was member of IR 117 and attacked Louvemont near Verdun. Maybe he was wounded there (and lost his canteen). He was sent to a hospital in Germany and then to his garrison at Mainz, were he was attached to another regiment also from Mainz, this time IR 88. Then he died with the 88er in September 1916, 7 months after the attack near Verdun with IR 117.

I only have informations about the 13 cm Kanone which was a very modern gun. These old 13,5 cm were not used in Verdun btw.

Thanks Tony. Would you try to repair the missing ring?

Chris, remember the "Eisernen Portionen" from the Wasserstollen in the Herbebois-Schlucht? And now see this pic. What do you think; what was in the cans?

Nice pics of Romagne, where I had the pleasure to "live" for a couple of days. I also was member of the group who cleaned the monument after nearly 90 years. Some rows of the golden letters on the left side were painted by me.

Chris, I have the feeling, that it might be the guy from Bad Vilbel. How about contacting the Stadtarchiv and ask for more informations about the guy on the cemetary?
Saw this story about a stamped mess tin?

Hi Guys...
Sorry for the delay. my computer has packed up for the second time in a month and I am on an old laptop again :-(
Have to wait till the big one is back to post more flowers.
indeed, i am happy with the canteen :-)) The fact it is alu helped it survive very well. I am on the lookout for a history of the 117th to flip through, but I dont think i will have much luck finding the man.
Best
Chris

Today it has arrived. I found another stamp on the left side: "R. 33". I don't think this is a date. Is it possible, that this binocular was captures by the germans and they added their unit mark? Possibly Reserve-Infanterieregiment 33? The letter "R" and the numbers are completely different from those of the maker/serial number stamp.

Chris, the named canteen is one of the best finds. It tells more about the history than any fuse or rifle. You should try to research it.
