    1. Saxonia:

The medal is being produced by the company PräWeMa in Markneukirchen which produced a large part of the former GDR medals too. If you look closely at the flood medal posted by Claudio, you will recognize the pin. Its the same as used for GDR (DDR) medals in the past. It seems they still have huge amounts of these pins on stock.

    2. Here are some photos I took in and around the city of Torgau in Saxonia during the flood in June 2013 showing the crisis management center in the city with representatives of all relief organisations including the dutch army which joined the flood relief too while being on a training area some kilometers away. "Super Puma" Helicopter from the German Federal Police with sandbags and finally the river Elbe, which had a width of almost 1 km instead of about 200 m usually and its water level was about 7,5 m higher than it should be during this time of the year. We were all lucky that the dikes hold off these masses of water!

    3. Following the flood of the river Elbe this year, the following german states instituted flood relief medals just a couple of days ago:

      Germany (federal): Einsatzmedaille "Fluthilfe 2013"
Brandenburg: Hochwassermedaille des Landes Brandenburg 2013

      Sachsen: Sächsischer Fluthelfer-Orden 2013

More states will follow in the next weeks.

    4. I think they use these ID tag holders for all medal presentations in the US Armed Forces, I saw it on all photos from all branches. I had to reply on that one because I am Air Force (German Reserve) too :D

I checked all Bronze Stars in my collection, all have a closed loop; so star and loop are made in one piece.

    5. I just came across these photos showing Air Force members being awarded with the Bronze Star Medal and found a funny little detail: Both Bronze Stars are showing the revers as front but the ribbon/pin is correctly attached. It seems they were mounted with the backside as front due to a production error and nobody ever realised that! Were the quality inspectors drunk? :cheeky: Its also interesting to see, that they are not engraved ;) So the US are doing the same we do with our medals; saving money whereever possible?

    6. Here a closeup of one of them. What a crap construction! And why using a clasp with the inscription "Gefecht" (combat) instead of crossed swords for example? Maybe that would look too much military. :speechless:

Using painted medals brings our country back to produce "GDR quality" medals. I think we are not very far away to institute medals made from aluminium with plastic enamel...

    7. This is really crazy, especially the order of precedence. Imagine an old veteran from WWII who stormed the beaches of Normandy in 1944 and got wounded or took out a machine gun and got the Bronze Star for valor and now someone is sitting in an air conditioned room on Edwards Air Force Base with a joystick in his one hand and a cup of coffee in the other and gets a HIGHER award! :speechless:
