Hello Gentlemen,as ever very very hard to get such awards document. Here for a Knight of the Order of Great Star of Djibouti Emmanuel
    2. Hello Gentlemen, research never stops, and I finally found an awardd document I thought I would never have gotten Order of Devotion of Congo Brazzaville : Grade Officer Before being in duty in Brazaville Jean de Lopez had a long career in Indochina from the late 30ies till 1960. He remained in service in Independent Cambodia after 1953. Emmanuel
    3. Exactly, when the 2 Lions are facing eachothers,it's 1st Type (before 1984 which is the official date of full independence from Great Britain). The 2nd Type (with the crown) in center is post 1984. This remark is also valid for the Order Setia Negara (Darjah Setia Negara) and Order of Palhawan Setia Negara (Darjah Palhawan Setia Negara). The Family Order of Brunei has also 2 type (one given before 1984 with portrait of Sultan),and one given after 1984 (with crown in center). Until recently (maybe middle of the 90ies) all the Orders & Medals of Brunei were produced by Spink of London, but much recent one have been seen with the mark & in case of ELM Singapore. Emmanuel
    4. Hello Gentlemen, despite we do not have yet pictures of the insignia, here read the link about the ceremony on 22 june 2011,when President Denis Sassou Nguesso awarded Grand Cross of National Order of Peace to General Sekouba Konate of Guinea (for the peacefull political transition in Guinea and the return to democracy). http://africadefense...nal-de-la-paix/ If anybody has a better picture he's most welcome to post it here. Emmanuel
    5. Hahaha if I were a bad guy I could include here a picture of the National Order of Peace of Rwanda (which also include a dove in its center) ,and you would believe it is a Congo award if I were saying so;but I'am not that kind of person.Thruth is a valor for me. Just as an information, the National Order of Peace of Rwanda (as the 3 others Orders of Rwanda seen on dealers web sites) is now obsolete. But maybe you will believe this : http://africadefensejournal.wordpress.com/2011/06/23/le-general-sekouba-konate-eleve-a-la-dignite-de-grand-croix-dans-l%E2%80%99ordre-national-de-la-paix/ Grand Cross of National Order of Peace of Congo Brazzaville to General Sekouba Konate Ribbon green/white/green Emmanuel
    6. Today I found this picture of Order of Sport Merit (the article say Officer of the Order of Sport Merit)awarded on 13 june 2011 to Aziz Daouda (Technical Director of African Athletism Confederation). http://azizdaouda.bl...-de-la-map.html As the insignia is silvered,I can guess the Knight insignia is bronze, and the insignia of Commandor (if it exist) could be either gilded (with or without rosette) or suspended from the neck. I hope you will appreciate my effort to found through the net, ever new information and pictures. Emmanuel

    8. Hello Gentlemen, this is a recent find on the web site of the Government of Congo. There is a list of a large quantity of yet unknown awards. Emmanuel
    9. Among the National Award of Congo Brazzaville, this official body give a list : Ordre du Merite Congolais (that we have seen many insignia) Ordre National de la Paix (yet no picture) Ordre du Dévouempent Congolais (that we have seen many insignia, few in higher rank, but no problem of identification for low rank) Ordre de la Médaille d'Honneur (we have seen some pictures and insignia) Ordre du Merite Universitaire (listed in the Nicolas de Roffignac book) Ordre du Merite Agricole (yet no picture) Ordre du Merite Sportif (yet no picture) Croix de la Valeur Militaire (yet no picture) Medaille de la Fraternite d'Armes (yet no picture) Médaille d'Honneur des Chemin de Fer et des Ports (yet no picture) Médaille d'Honneur de la Police Congolaise (listed in Nicolas de Roffignac book) Médaille d'Honneur des Profession de Justice (yet no picture) Médaille d'Honneur du Génie Civil (yet no picture) Médaille d'honneur de la Recherche Scientifique et Technologique (yet no picture) Médaille d'Honneur des Blessés (yet no picture) Médailles des Mutilés et Victimes de Guerre (yet no picture) Emmanuel
    10. Here is a web page from the Chancellery of Orders of Congo Republic (ex french Congo or Congo Brazzaville). I will post later the close up. You will see that there is many Orders & Medals that we know only by name, but there is no Order of Bravery and no Star of Valour. Emmanuel
    11. On almost all of these Morocco Valour Medal for Congo the reverse center reads Vaillance & Endurance. Something like 2002-2004 a well known dealer from Livrepool had such a star with reverse center Travail & Progres. I believe that piece had its original center lost and replaced by a reverse center of Star of Honour for Indigenous (which on that time was still very common in ex belgian Congo). It had existed so many medal manufacturer in Belgium after WWII that it exist a very large number of variation of the Star of Honour for Indigenous,so it shouldn't have been that difficult to get a center that matched the size of the missing ones. We (I mean collectors) have almost ounce in our life see a medal or an order that had been customized or modified. Emmanuel
    12. Sorry to contredict you but the motto of Democratic Republic of Congo is : Justice - Peace - Work The motto Travail et Progres was for Independent State of Congo (1885-1908) & Belgian Congo (1908-1960) Emmanuel
    13. And it's reverse
    14. Hello James ,the dahir you are refering to is concerning the medal for the operation in the province of Shaba in 1978. Regards. Emmanuel
    15. Actually I believe it will be very hard to get a proof of 100 % I also believed that this white star was a Congo - Brazzaville Medal (like listed in the book of Nicolas de Roffignac). But I have conversation with Nicolas de Roffignac since 1997 and he always said that he had no evidence (I mean legal text) that this medal was an award of Congo Republic ( Congo Brazzaville ). In 2005 in on of my many visit to Arthus Bertrand in Paris,I spoke with Mrs Thies (who was responsible of medals in the shop). The discussion came when we opened drawers and I pointed her that the several miniature of the so called "Congo Order of Vaillance",were not in the correct place; because in Arthus Bertrand shop these miniature were in the drawer for Morocco. She then replied me that she was 100 % certain and that she was there since the late 60ies (she is now retired). Further investigation drove me to think that this star is a Moroccan Award. On his web site Antonio Prieto list the ribbon of this medal in the Moroccan ribbon (on page 3 of Morocco) www.coleccionesmilitares.com/cintas/index.htm General Kettani died of a heart attack during a parade in the early 60ies.Maybe he never got that medal himself ? Anyway I will continue my research, there is a good web forum of the moroccan armed force (in french) maintained by moroccan soldiers and officers and it's a good sources of photo and info. http://far-maroc.forumpro.fr James report one of this star with the reverse inscribed "Travail et Progres" motto of ex belgian Congo.I saw that medal on the web site of liverpool medals a long time ago,but all,I saw all others I saw (included mine) have the reverse inscribed " Vaillance et Endurance". I believe that the one on the liverpool web site had lost its reverse center and that someone (collector or dealer) had replaced it by a similar diameter center long time ago (but it's my opinion). Emmanuel
    16. Chris Boonzaier report the former version of the Ed web site On the more recent version Ed has corrected the mistake www.themedalhound.com Emmanuel
    17. This is a picture of General Hammu al Kitami or Hammou al Kettani .You can see on his arm the UN patch. Again if anybody has a good picture of this general from front,he's most welcome to post it here. Emmanuel
    18. And the reverse of the medal above.
    19. Hello Gentlemen, whatever some of the members may have written above,I have to add this evidence that came to me yesterday. This is a picture from the collection of a moroccan fellow. That collector has a collection of almost a hundred of medals & insignia only from Morocco and only founded in Morocco. I have no reason to say something that I would knew false. Lots of fellow collectors base their knowledge on the very good book published in 2000 by Nicolas de Roffignac on Modern Post Independence African Awards. At least there is a few mistake in this book, like in all books whose topic is very wide. Some web site just have duplicate the mistake. If anybody has pictures from moroccan officers that were sent to Congo in 1960 and wearing medals,he's most welcome to post them here. I suggest people who are really interested in that topic to read this : http://findarticles...._n6112519/pg_3/ And investigate. General Hammu al Kitani ,but another web site refer is orthograph as General Kettani (but it is the same person), was in command of the 3200 moroccan troops sent to Congo in 1960-61. General Kettani was first General in the French Army (promotion Dar Bida 1926) and after Independence the first general of Morocco. I tried to get a picture of the medal bar of this General, but yet unsuccesfull. Emmanuel
    20. Hello Gentlemen, not of good quality, but better than nothing. This is the Order of 20 August from Senegal (the picture is from an old presentation catalogue and unfortunately black & white & without ribbon). The size is reported to be 30 millimeters width and 40 millimeters high. The ribbon was 37 millimeters, red with a 5 millimeters central black stripe. Emmanuel
    21. From the last National Day of Togo (27 april 2011), a lot of Knight of Order of Mono (highest award) ready to be awarded. And a photo from Saidi Adjagba Chief of Protocol of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Togo (his award is Knight of the Order of Merit). Emmanuel

      Mali

Pictures always speaks better than words. With research last night I got this picture of Commandor Order of Agricultural Merit of Mali. I never saw it in real, and actually on market the awards of Mali are much less seldom seen than others ex french colonies of Africa. This Commandor was awarded to Yaya Diarra President of an Agricultural Cooperative in Mali . Read this link if you're interested : http://usc-canada.org/2011/06/21/spotlight-on-mali/ Emmanuel
    24. And its reverse. Emmanuel
    25. Hello Jeff ,what you have is Cruz de Plata de Orden Isabel la Catolica (Silver Cross of the Order of Isabel the Catholic). It's lesser ranking to Knight, but it is much more rarer. The Order of Isabel la Catolica was created in 1815,but the Silver Cross was only added in 1903. The reverse has the cypher of Fernando VII so it's a Kingdom era ( King Alfonso XIII ,so before 1931).But yours has the reverse center enameled (mine not),but lots of variation exist in spanish award.Anyway a beautifull piece you have. I enclose here the picture of the Siver Cross in my colelction. Could you post yours obverse & reverse ? PS : Cejalvo still exist but I think since 2005 or 2006 they are not in their former adress. Emmanuel
