Here you can see the Liberation Decoration (Megan has to be credited for this picture). This decoration was awarded to those who were directly and at a high level, linked to the establishment of the Republic of Zimbabwe. Emmanuel

Here is also an important award related to the period before the independence of Zimbabwe. It is the Liberation Medal (this is a 2 classes award, silver & bronze) and it was awarded to those who before 18 april 1981 (the date of independence of Zimbabwe) have given service to the establishment of the country. Mostly ex guerilla fighter. Emmanuel

Here is the Zimbabwe Medal awarded to troops that were sent by Robert Mugabe in RDC ( Republic Democratic du Congo or ex Zaire) in the period 1998-2002.The medal was only officially instituted in 2006. It's the ribbon with which the medal is almost always found. But on the post I did above, you will see another one. Emmanuel

Here a group of Zimbabwe Medal for which I have no explanation of ribbon colors ? The Service Medal has a white ribbon with a central green stripe and the shades of the Pipeline Medal ribbon are darker !!! Even the last medal at right which is for the troops send in RDC ( Republic Democratic du Congo , or ex Zaire ) has a ribbon that I never saw on others such a medals. Again if someone has a accurate information he's most welcome, but please don't write things like "oh no I don't know" it helps no way. Emmanuel

Here it's the Zimbabwe Defense Pipeline Medal. During the civil war in neighbouring Mozambique, the rebel of the RENAMO (backed by South African Secrret Service) attacked continuously the pipleline that from the habour of Beira in Mozambique feeded Zimbabwe with fuel. Robert Mugabe had sent more than 3000 of his troops to protect the pipline which was vital for his country. I was told a story by a fellow south african that very few of these medals were given to the soldiers,as one day a bag with 3000 of them arrived in Johannesburg (all of them named). By the way this medal is sometimes met on mounted group,so it might be that some person ave really be awarded the medal. Emmanuel

Here again a rarely seen award. It's Zimbabwe Efficient Service Medal. Here a Police Efficient Service Medal. You'll see that the ribbon has only 2 yellow stripes at each edges ,and the Police Long & Exemplary Service has 3 yellow stripes near edges. This silver plated medal is named on the reverse. If someone has Efficient Service Medal from others service,he's most welcome to post it here. Emmanuel

Hello Gentlemen,I will try to put some order in the various decoration of Zimbabwe. It will not be complete,as some Civil awards are hard to get,but who knows. Here I begin by the highest awards for Gallantry (of the 4 services : Army - Police - Prison - Air Force), the Gold Cross of Zimbabwe & the Silver Cross of Zimbabwe. Here you can see Army awards (the army awards, and this apply for all medals,is symbolised by an oak branch on suspension bar). For the Air Force it's an Eagle with Streched Wings, for the Police it is the Balance of Justice and for the Prison it's a Key. The Gold Cross of Zimbabwe is a Specimen, but I never saw an attributed one for sale. The Silver Cross of Zimbabwe is 40 millimeters wide & has a weight of 47 grammes (heavy). It is told that it exist a Gold & Silver Cross for Civilian, but despite the ribbon exist on ribbon charts,I never saw one. Emmanuel

Here you can see the 3 Long Service & Good Conduct Medal from the 3 services. At right : Army LSGC In the middle : Air Force LSGC At left : Police LSGC The Army LSGC & Police LSGC are of the 1st striking from the second half of the sixties.High quality striking and suspension swivel. The Police one's is named. The Air Force one is a later striking from the 90ies and is 10 to 15 % bigger. The suspension on the Air Force LSGC I own doesn't swivel. I hope that other members will post their medals or picture they host in their computer like I do. Emmanuel

The highest Order of Zambia is the Order of the Eagle. Also instituted by law 347/1965. It's a 4 classes Order and the highest class Grand Companion comes with a collar : Grand Commander ( G.C.E.Z.) ; Grand Officer ( G.O.E.Z.) , Officer ( O.E.Z.) & Member ( M.E.Z.) Emmanuel

Hello Gentlemen,as someone else has begun with Zambia I thought it would be interesting to increase the number of information available. The 2nd highest Order of Zambia is the Order of the Grand Companion of Freedom. Also instituted by law 347/1965. It's a 4 classes Order : Grand Commander ( G.C.G.C.F.) ; Grand Officer ( G.O.G.C.F.) ; Officer ( O.G.C.F.) & Member ( M.G.C.F.) Here you can see the set of Marchal Tito, but Nicolae Ceaucescu,Indira Gandhi & Doctor Martin Luther King have also been awarded this Order. If anyone has a picture of a lowest class of this Order ,he's most welcome to post it. Emmanuel

Another seldom seen award from Zambia is the Insignia of Honour. It's a kind of Civil Commendation. It's named on reverse to John Owen-Wallen and dated 24.10.1968. John Owen-Wallen was an engineer from Ndola, who in 1931 founded Northern Rhodesia Lime Company Limited (after Independence renamed Ndola Lime Company Limited : NLC ). Emmanuel

But to my opinion, the most unusual is this : Zambia National Award for Excellence in Science & Technology..... High quality strike.....and it's a true story in the 70ies Kenneth Kaunda had really launched a Zambia Space Program !!! They really have begun to train astronaut, matching G Machice by ordering peole to enter in barrel and then barrel were launched from a hill to run and run. This program was fast ended. That's Africa. Emmanuel

This medal also exist : Zambia Police Distinguished Service Medal. The suspension swivel on that one,so it's an old one,but I'am not sure it's the correct ribbon. For some awards like the Army LSGC Medal zambia kept the same ribbon as UK,but this ribbon is similar to the british Police DSM,but narrower. If anyone has more info, help is appreciated. Emmanuel

The 2 identical medal on upper row are : Zambia Police Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (exist only in bronze) The first from left on bottom row : Zambia Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (suspension swivel). The 2nd from left is : Zambia Defense Force Proficiency Medal (suspension swivel, but the one I have in my collection is a later striking on which suspension doesn't swivel). The last on bottom row is : Zambia Army Commissioned Service Medal. Emmanuel

Here is a mix lot of Zambia medal that was auctioned in London in june 2004.I was there but this lot of 20 awards (there is a 2nd file) went to high that day (700 Pounds + 15 %). First at left : Military Cross (suspension swivel) Second from left : Zambia Air Force Commissioned Service Medal Third from left : I just remember on reverse it was written "For Bravery in the Field" The last at right on bottom row is : Zambia Defense Force Star for Distinguished Service (suspension swivel).I have a later type of this decoration (not british made, and suspension doesn't swivel). On the upper row the medal with the green ribbon is Zambia Police Meritorious Service Medal 1st Type ( 1964-91).After 1991 the effigy of Kenneth Kaunda was replaced by the Coat of Arms, but ribbon remain the same.
