On 18 February 2010 there was a Military Coup d'etat in Niger and Salou Djibo took control and emprisoned former President Tandja. So on summer 2010,on 3 August,it was Salou Djibo who was on the parade for the 50th Indepedence of Niger. Click on the lonk below, you will see a larger picture, then click on the picture itself and download it on your own computer to increase its size. At left on first row he's wearing Order of Merit of Niger, but the 2 Next Medal ??? They are not UN Medal. If anyone has a better picture or a constructive thought .....he's always welcome to post it here. http://www.ladepeche...-a-l-armee.html Emmanuel

In Niger we miss a lot of picture. Niger Medal of Honour of Public Health instituted by Law 64.132/PRN of 3 July 1964 in 4 classes Niger Medal of Honour of the Custom Service instituted by Law 66.050 of 18 March 1966.It's a single class medal. You need a minimum of 12 years of service to enter in the criteria to be awarded this medal, and only 5 can be awarded yearly. Niger Croix de la Vaillance ( Cross of valour ) .instituted by Law 65.064/PRN of 30 April 1964. Niger who sent 500 troops to Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War of 1990-91 also instituted a specific medal for this campaign. There was a ceremony on 3 August 1992 when these medals were awarded. If someone has a picture of this ceremony,it would be interesting. Emmanuel

Here it is the Medal of Labor. It's a 4 Classes Medal instituted by Law 67.126/MFP/T of 7 September 1967. To enter in the criteria for the Labor Medal you can change only ounce of job on your career !!! The Bronze Medal is suspended to a ribbon without rosette and is for 15 years of service. The Silver Medal is suspended from a ribbon with rosette and is for 20 years of service. The Gold Medal is suspended to the ribbon by a double palm of corn and as a ribbon with rosette and a strap from each side of the rosette. This medal is for 30 years of service. The Great Gold Medal is similar to the Gold Medal but the border is larger so its diameter is 29 millimeters instead of 27 millimeters for the 3 lwer classes. The Great Gold Medal is for 35 years of service. Here it is the Order of the Academic Palm of the Niger. As to follow the french tradition, the specific merit Orders have 3 classes : Commander - Officer - Knight. The Order of the Academic Palm was instituted by Law 69.68/PRN/CHAN/MEN of 15 March 1969. Here is presented the insignia of a Knight of the Academic Palm. As there is the name of the decoration on reverse,I present the reverse. It's not silver for those who wants to know more,it's silvered metal. And size is 40 x 32 millimeters. It's hard to see,but the space between the bottom part of the Agadez Cross and the palm leaf on border is filled by dark purple enamel. Emmanuel

Here is the Order of the Agricultural Merit of the Niger. The 2 palm of corn as a suspension would indicate it's a commander insignia, but I bought it like that. (ribbon is correct). So a conform to decreee insignia of a Knight of Agricultural Merit would be the same, but without the 2 palms suspension. Reverse is blank. This Order is a 3 classes Order and has been created by Law 63.135/PRN of 25 July 1963. Emmanuel

Hello Gentlemen, here I will try to list the Medals,Decoration & Specific Merit Orders of the Republic of Niger. Of course this list is incomplete, and if someone can help to fill the gap,I will pay tribute to him. In my recent post there has been friendly & enthusiast member that follows and post the pictures of items they own,or from items hosted in their computer.I pay tribute to them. Here in this topic it's about Republic of Niger (not Nigeria),so please do not post a medal of Nigeria here,it won't help.Maybe later there will be a post on Nigeria. The 2 Higher Orders of the Republic of Niger : National Order of Niger & Order of Merit of Niger will be on a separate topic. Here I present the Military Medal. This medal was instituted by Law 63.153/PRN of 9 August 1963. This medal maight be attributed for those Officers & NCO who have at least completed 8 years of service and have got a citation by the Minister of National Defense or if they got wounded in face of the enemy or in service. The reverse is blank. Emmanuel

ORDER OF THE ROKEL This is the insignia of the Officer of the Order of the Rokel. That one was made by Huguenin and it is in metal gilt. But long time ago,in 1999 a well known british dealer had a Commander of the Order of the Rokel in gold (price in 1999 was 1000 Pounds if my memory is good).I didn't bought it,but 10 years later I met the person who bought it and he was kind enough to show it to me.A superb piece very very heavy. That's all I can say about Sierra Leone, but I'am sure there is plenty of fellow who will read these 2 topic and will post what they have. But please post medals in the Medal topic & Order in the Order topic to keep some logical order. If someone needs ribbon for the Order of the Rokel I have a few. Emmanuel

ORDER OF THE REPUBLIC Hello Gentlemen, here I will begin by the senior Order of Sierra Leone, the Order of the Republic. It's a 4 Classes award : Grand Commander ( G.C.O.R.S.L.) - Commander ( C.O.R.S.L.) - Officer ( O.O.R.S.L.) - Member ( M.O.R.S.L.) This Order was instituted in 1972. Here I can sho the insignia of the Officer of the Order of the Republic.I have the case of issue,so it's an Officer despite it's silver and not silver gilt. The case of issue is of beautifull green leather with Coat of Arms embossed on the lid & the name of the Order with its post nominal letter. It's a very heavy silver badge (69 grammes without ribbon & ribbon pin). That one was manufactured by Huguenin. Now they are manufactured in London again (but not by Spink). Emmanuel

If anybody has a picture he's always welcome to post it here. Our knowledge on Sierra Leone is very thin, and help is always appreciated. Emmanuel
