Hello Gentlemen, Here I have the pleasure to show some photo of Order Wissam el Hamudieh (photo from the 1st Class set of Legion of Honor Museum in Paris). This Order was instituted by Sultan Hamoud ibn M'hamed in 1897, in 5 Classes. Sultan Hamoud (photo enclosed below) instituted this Order as a kind of commemoration, for the help of the British Fleet, who helped him to be installed after the 45 Minutes War of 28 August 1896. See the link below on that war. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Zanzibar_War The Statues are not know, but the entries of the Zanzibar Gazette are. The first awards took place on 20 June 1897, and the last on 6 January 1902. The Order of Hamudieh ceased to exist following the abdication of his son Sultan Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud in 1911. Following his abdication, there was a reform in the finance of the Sultanate, and as Sultan Ali ( 1902-1911 ) was a great lavish spender, the Order of Hamudieh ceased to exist (despite he officially never awarded it), for a similar purpose in 1911, the Order of El Alijeh founded by Sultan Ali in 1905 also ceased to exist. This Order was superior in rank to the Order of the Brilliant Star, and all the insignia were made of solid gold. In the center of the insignia is the cypher of the Sultan : Sayyid Hamoud bin M'hamed bin Said 1314 ; which can be translated by High Lord Hamoud, son of M'hamed, great son of Said and 1314 correspond to his ascension to the Throne in 1896. The breast star has a diameter of 83 Millimeters and a weight of 80 Grammes. The sash badge is 60 x 73 Millimeters and has a weight of 50 Grammes. This set was awarded to Admiral Sir Harry Rawson Commanding the Bombardement of Zanzibar during the War of 28 August 1896. This set was later in the collection of HE Antonio Spada, who made a long loan of his personnal collection to the Museum of the Legion of Honour in Paris. The museum has the original sash (plain red) that belonged to this set, but for display reason , decided not to display the sash. I can agree, that the light of the exposition room may fade the red from the sash, which cannot be replaced. In the book Honor & Glory about the Treasure of the Spada Collection, displayed in the Museum of Legion of Honour, this set is displayed with its sash. On the last photo, you can clearly see Sir Harry Rawson wearing the Hamudieh breast star, just. below his GCB breast star. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Rawson Only 1 Grand Order of Hamudieh (to Sir General Lloyd Williams Mathews), and only 3 1st Class set were ever awarded ( Admiral Sir Harry Rawson, Arthur Raikes, Alexander Stuart Rogers Esq) , but a set with diamonds was awarded to the Sultan of Oman Faiçal bin Turki ( 1888-1913 ). Sultan Faiçal bin Turki was the father of one of his wives. I do not know if the Grand Order of Hamudieh was different from the Order of Haumdieh 1st Class.

Since the 1970ies Guyana had 3 Medals for its Services branches from civil services, Service Star Meritorious Service Medal Long Service and Good Conduct Medal The same medals were used for the respectives 3 Branches of Service : Police, Fire Fighter & Prison (each time with a different ribbon. But each of the 3 medals bore on its reverse the Stick of Police, the Axe of the Fire Fighter and the Key of the Prison. Much later in the early XXI Century, there was the need of others medals for Police Service. And then, ounce I had the occasion to buy these 3 Medals in London, in summer 2019 Respectively, from left to right : Guyana Police Force Efficiency Medal Guyana Police Force Commissioner's Medal of Honour Guyana Police Force Tactical Efficiency Medal. The seller had only one set of medals with their ribbons mounted. I was the lucky guy that was in the shop that day. Regards to all. Emmanuel

Hello Gentlemen, I ounce grabbed this photo on a web site, belonged to the web site of the University of Guyana. No idea why they get a display of their medal, but I choose to post it here, because the Military Service Medal is rarely seen. From left to right we have : Guyana Defense Force 40th Anniversary Medal 1965-2005. Guyana Defense Force 25th Anniversary Medal 1965-1990 Guyana Border Operation Medal Guyana Military Efficiency Medal (the first medal of the military efficiency, manufactured by Spink's had a blue central stripe much more darker). Guyana Independence Medal 1966. Guyana Military Service Medal. Guyana Military Service Star. * for the record, the Military Service Medal (miniature), posted by Ilja on 13 April 2013, has an incorrect ribbon, actually the one of the Military Service Star. Regards to all. Emmanuel

A close up of the group of the past post to Brigadier General Patrick West. The 1st Medal is the Military Service Star. The 2nd Medal is the Military Efficiency Medal. The 3rd Medal is Border Operation Medal. The 4th Medal is Guyana Defense Force 25th Anniversary Medal 1965-1990 The 5th Medal is Guyana Defense Force 40th Anniversary Medal 1965-2005 The 6th Medal is Guyana Defense Force 50th Anniversary Medal 1965-2015 I know Guyana gained its Independence from the UK in May 1966, but the Guyana Defense Force was formed on 1st November 1965. Look carefully the bird in the "insignia" on obverse of medal 4 to 6, it is the badge of the Guyana Defense Force. Please also note that the suspension of medal 4 to 6 vary, greatly (they shall not have been struck by the same company). Regards to all. Emmanuel

Again, the same tool dies, have been use to make this one, just the motto at 6 O'Clock is changing (and the ribbon). It's Dr. Manuel Enrique Araujo Medal. Manuel Enrique Araujo was President of El Salvador from 1911 to 1913, when he was assasinated. He was Vice President before 1911, and was also ounce Mayor of San Salvador. He was also a Doctor, and he was giving care to the poor for free. It is during his Presidency that the actual flag of El Salvador was adopted. Since 1955 the Military Academy of El Salvador is named after him. An award for Military Doctor...? Or an award for Military Teacher ? Or for those who follow the course of the Military Academy and are major in their promotion ? If any member can tell us more about. I would be glad. Regards to all. Emmanuel

Chile Order of Merit
heusy68 replied to Old bidder's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
Hello Gentlemen, In the first years of its existence, the Order of Merit of Chile had only 2, then 3 classes, ( 2 Classes from 1906 to 1911, then 3 Classes from 1911), and the ribbon was "national colors", On the 2nd Class, that I own, and which came from a Hamburg Auction about 8 years ago, you can see a triangular "german style" ribbon that is not from the status of the Order (and the color on the 2nd Class, are also not correct, however the owner wore it such a way, as he was the austro-hungrian Military Attaché to Santiago, and I have the document). On the 3rd Class (which is a rare real 3rd Class 1st type, according to a discussion I had with the late Gustav Tammam who was a good fellow), the plain bleu color shall not be statutory, but I bought it such a way. And this one is a 1st Type, because of the "fischscale arms". From exemple of the Order of Merit seen in collections, later, I mean Type 5 (after 1929), the ribbon was still "national colors" till at least the 2nd World War. Later on, you start to see plain blue ribbon (we got source to support these, as the official manufacturing plate from Arthus Bertrand still exist, and have been displayed in the book : Order of Knighthood in 2 volumes published by Rafal Heydel Mankoo, in 2012, if my memory is correct. I post here also a photo from the Officer Type 5 of my collection (correct ribbon for a pre WWII insignia). The main differences between badges of the Order of Merit 1st & 2nd Type with Order of Merit 5th Type (post 1929) is the "style" of the Condor Supension, and the motto "REPUBLICA de CHILE" which is part of the center on 1st & 2nd Type, but written between 2 circles on 5th Type. Many many collectors believes that Order of Merit of Chile breast badge with red enamel are from a so-called "military division", but this had never existed. Just the arms of the breast badge were red enamel for 5th Class (from 1929....), bleu enamel for 4th Class (from 1929...), and white enamel for 3rd Class and above ( from 1929....), Still the Medal of Merit from the Order of merit still exist (without enamel on arms), as a kind of 6th Class of the Order (the lowest class). Regards to all. Emmanuel -
And here we got the last one, The Medal of Responsability (actually it is what read the suspender). The medal is iself named " Estralla Nautica" ounce more. If any of our members is from Guatemala, or knows better this topic, he is most welcome to add information below. In the room, where I was shown these medals, there were no others from the DIGICI, but that does not means that others might not exist. Regards to all. Emmanuel

Hello Gentlemen, I will show today, some medals, that are not parts of my collection, but that I had the occasion to see, and more, to be allow to photograph them, when I was doing a travel to Guatemala in January 2018. They are the medal from the DIGICI ( Direccion General de la Intelligencia Civil ), actually it's a separate office (not exactly police....), that are in charge of fighting the narcotrafic, the sides activities connected to it, the money laundering, and corruption ). And yes, this service has its own medal, and you gonna see them. Usually I know few travellers takes 2 to 3, to 4, or more extra days to chase medals, or medals information when they are very far from home, but that is something I always do. Meeting people, spoke to them is as interesting, as getting medal, because you then got their stories, and it helps you to understand more, this vast very vast field that phaleristic is. Regards to all. Emmanuel
