Certainly not my field of expertiese. A friend just got this one. Looks very much a high quality made badge to me.0

Hi, I don't like the look of this one. Can you post a picture of the reverse? I have a M1/63 Meistersch?tze and there are many differences when comparing it to the badge shown here. Don will be able to give you a definitive answer though I'm sure
Would you be able to post yours here as well?

...and here it is:

How about this rare badge:

...nevertheless the reverse of the Shaper Navy XXXX badge:

Email I received today, which adds to the discussion.
Crown and Halfmoon punch mark are never a good sign. Engravings are widely
forged as well.
If I had to buy a piece I would go for a standard bronze gilt one. Example
of a "Land Flieger" attached, the sea flieger looks the same from the
reverse and basic features of the front.

Would it not be common courtesy to ask permission before posting private correspondence/emails on the internet?

Here another regular Wagner:

The crown order that started this thread has those typical swords used by the firm of Godet.0

Here is a nice example of the Friedrich Cross on the non-combatant ribbon:

I believe this comes from the ANS sale?! If so, they really liked to buy their items in Paris. The introduction of the Morton & Eden catalogues talks about it, too. Still nice and before 1940th.0

You will also find Landwehr and Regular Long service awards on one bar. Same is true for within a state or from two different states.

This may be unrelated to the initial question, but in regards to the last remark:
The price of an replacement order decoration before 1918 was rather high. Imagine that 20 Goldmark almost represented a weeks wage. You may have gotten a knight 1st class for that. I believe that orders got rarely replaced, just for monetary reasons. One had to very well off to acquire additional or replacement pieces.
The attached list comes form the Hoeftman and give a nice overview on pricing for Prussian decorations arround the century change.
III.Reich pieces did not cost anything in comparison.

The Hessenthal/Schreiber would be still my favorite, since it has all imperial medals (not order decorations) listed with lots of information. Yet, one needs to read German.0

It is in my humble opinion not too early, is it? Is the medaillon still real gold, or gilt? I guess this type to be from about 1905 to 1910, so quite late - compared to ones from 1866, 1875 or 1880s.
Great thread, by the way. Keep them lions coming.
Real Gold.

A really nice bar of a Major d. Reserve or something similar. It has been yours, but isn't anymore?
The BZL3a is real gold, the other one gilt. Are you sure it to be bronce gilt? I've never heared this before, read anywhere they are silver gilt. "D" means "Doubl?", but I don't know what it exactly means ...
No, parted many many moons ago.
Yes, for sure bronze gilt. That is actually what Doubl? stands for, hence the D mark on most lat WWI badges. I had serval grades in bronze gilt/Doubl? in my medal collecting career.

Searching through old files I came accross this interesting example of a Baden Medal Bar. If I remeber correctly the Zaehringer Lion with swords is Bronze gilt (D) and the civil one gold:

In case somebody wondered. I have listed the bronze gilt piece on ebay.0

...and the reverse:

..and one more. Earlier piece with still radiant silver lining underneath the green glass arms:

...not to forget to mention, that both are double sidded!
Keep in mind, I always like to trade

Coincidence....just got two 1920th to 1940th PlMs. Obviously made by Godet, yet without markings, the one with oak leaf is a one piece construction in silver gilt, the other one hollow made bronze gilt. Certainly examples distributed by Schickle, Meybauer or maybe even Sedlazek.

As a Albert Order Veteran Collector I can only say that everything is possible. I had once a single sided knight second - just to point out the opposite of the beauty scale.0

Hallo,
the swan is just a import mark used mainly for taxation of imported and also auctioned goods. In my experience those marks were set at auction, whenever these items sold.
How painfull !!! for the collector when applied anywhere else but the ring.
Nice piece.
