I did actually go to London for the 1st part of this auction and found almost only dealers bidding on all those pieces. Nevertheless, to say the least: It wasn't cheap.0

OK, I think it is now time for certain individuals to bring on some big guns0

...this one is interesting. Siebrecht ("S" mark on the reverse top) and silver content mark on ring.
SILVER GILD at its finest:[attachmentid=46972]0 -
...and a really nice old and golden one:
[attachmentid=46971]Very much identical to the one pictured above with swords underneath the cross.

...well, when I see this picture, I almost have to cry but it is in good "Foster" care today:
[attachmentid=46970]This one is Silver gilt, of course.

...and here another one long gone, by Siebrecht. Note the horse's tail:

I almost forgot this one. I do not own this anymore, but luckily took some pictures in June 1994. Too bad we did not have scanners and digital cameras those days:
[attachmentid=46966]The little brother to Mark's example in the start up thread.

I like the case, whatever it may have been used for...but the piece is one of those wide spread Rothe fakes.0

and lets not forget this one. My find SOS 2003:

....my humble contribution as seen on my web page. I am sure we will see a lot more

Daniel, we are still trying to find out why you can find the Oldenburg cross in all possible combinations of medal-bars and nationalities. Sometimes with a connection to Oldenburg but very often without. Maybe it will remain a mystery forever...
How about the fact that Oldenburg had and has sea ports. Navy.....

The difference is not simple semantics. The difference between a manufacturer and retailer is quite different and an important distinction.
I should have put the word manufacturer in "". Many orders shops used to source from the manufacturer, which there weren't many. Just take Zimmermann for example!

Alexandre,
here is the piece auctioned off during the Thies auction from December, 11 2004, in gold.

P.S.: Love your town - am visiting once or twice a year for business.

WC, i haven?t seen one of the Prussian Merit Crosses with Crown for quite a while. Does anyone has information, how many MC?s with Crown were awarded?
There was an article in the German medal collectors magazine listing less the 20 per class (gold & silver). Names were listed, too. Yet, since the printing of the article I have been able to turn up another one not listed within that published statistic. I do still believe that we will not find more then 20 each or less.
Very rare indeed, due to the late issuing of this medal.

I believe there are both quite plausibel. The Baden one has just bad lighting which in my opinion makes the cross look brown instead of black.
There were many fathers and sons fighting during the same war timeframe as well....and regulations are regulations. Especially when it comes to medal bars.

...and since we already saw the case for its brother with swords:

The 1866 cross ribbon is definetly after 1945 and younger.0

Dan,
I am sorry, but I do not know.
Besides, I really only have interest in those three official manufacturers: Wagner, Friedl?nder & Godet.
Sorry
Andreas

It is not made by one of the three official suppliers to the Prussian orders chancellery.0

Andreas,
Well?
Come on, we expect your usual thoroughness. We want nice big photos of this one.

Mark,
I have several books on Turkish orers and medals at home. Will check over the weekend. I am sure it is Turkish. They had various badges like that one.
I will be back.

The hanovarian knight badge by Zell with swords topped everything off in my mind. 8.300 Euro plus 27%?!
Goodness....
