Another important point..... the oakleaves attachment to this order are always in gold, both RK1 & RK2. Very few awarded and very hard to find!
...noy always, silver gilt exists as well. With those golden one we mainly see two types. The 3 leaf cluster and the one show above. Always has a little hohle hidding under the ribbon wire.

Due to popular demand here the link:

If somebody is interested in them, I just listed them on ebay.0

Are there any flaws that would have caused them to be rejected by quality control inspectors? I can't see anything wrong that would have halted production.
Yes, they are actually not exactly centered. Maybe a millimeter of.

Actually, the LS medal is actual silver the Micheal medal cooper bronze, just like the real thing. I believe these are just unfinished examples.0

By accident I stumbled over those following two medals. The bronze merit medal of the Bavarian St.Michael Order as well as the Saxon Lifesavingsmedal in silver. Quite neat to see those unfinished pieces. Coined but not cut. Enjoy.

Has this guy collected these off E-bay?

Calling him on his cell phone usually works as well.0

This is a nice bar !!!!!0

...could it not be the silver merit cross with swords on the last position?0

...and to answer the question finally:
awarded the RAO4X
then RAO3 had swords on ring and bow as a sign that he:
a) had the swords in the 4th class (Swords on Ring)
b) had a lower grade of the order (bow)
He then must have gotten the 2nd class with oak leaf (proof of 3rd and 4th class) and swords (for bravery) on the 3 times white and 2 times black striped ribbon.
The special ribbon is the sign for the swords he was awarded for his 4th class and replaces the swords on ring.
You may also read:
....stripes instead of swords on ring.
The crown order above would be an award of the swords to an existing 3rd class with swords on ring. THe ribbon in this case would change, too. Yet those rules did change.....
You see, very easy

By the way, here is one of the impossible exmaples. Not made by Wagner, but Godet for a medal bar. Amazingly with a full lenght of that imposible to find ribbon:

I strongly agree with Wild Card's observation. We are dealing here with secondary sources and worse. The opus magnum (I don't even own it) as well as catalogue are nice little starting points but have unfortunatelly many mistakes.0

don't worry, I happen to have all the rules and regulations. If there is ever a questions: email me.

I was just made aware that there is a question on my favorite topic.
The answer is rather simple: With the Red Eagle Order everything is possible.
Well, there are the official rules of when and how certain attachements could be added to the order, but then the kings also awarded after their liking. Also, the rules changed over time and make it even more confusing.
Good point is the remark about: "Maybe just for foreigners???" and indeed, the rules for forgeiners are different as well as changed often. I do recommand to get all sets of statues and additions

Andreas,
Excellent family group - shame that the documents are missing. It is astonishing what turns up still in the possession of families.
I have the Milit?rpass of a man who served with the MGK of RIR 254 and who was awarded the EK II, Hessische Tapferkeits-Medaille and Hessisches Krieger-Ehrenzeichen in Eisen. They must have met and quite possibly knew each other.
David
What is his name? If I may ask? I should be able to find him in the regiments history!

That's a really great grouping to get.
Thank you, and here are his sons badges:

Greetings Andreas. very nice to find one with some history attached. The scan makes the texturing of the center look very strange!
Indeed, but that is the way the look.

The medal is made from Dukatengold, which is rather soft. to ensure that the medal did not fall out of its frame a much harder gold with high non-gold content (Silver) was used as frame material. This explains why the frame and agraffe looks always a bit dirty.

I guess I will have some reading to do to also find the days of his awards of the Hessian Bravery medal as well as his Iron Cross 1st class. It seems that those are mentioned by name in the regiments' history book.
A word about the Militaerverdienstkreuz:
It the typical silver gilt WWI issue piece with the marking W 938 for Wagner and the silver content. Gilding is of course almost washed away.
The following picture shows the messed up "T" in Verdienst. The tooling broke early in the war and was never replaced.
