The kanji on my 8th class case is different from Gordons, can someone tell me why, was it for a different era?
Yes, I think so. I believe that the earlier boxes have this type of writing. Is there anyone who knows when they changed the style? I have a feeling that it happened sometime in the thirties, am I right?

It's not JUST the letter, Erik, but it's a statistical likelihood from groups I have noticed.
Ok, I think i understand now.
I was hoping for a combat citation but I think I will research the OPW 1st. After all it is one of my favourites. After that I will probably research my Glory.

Thank You for all replies!
The only awards listed in the first book are the two OPWs, I guess this is unusual? The book has a letter "B".
The second group has a letter "A" in the book. Looks like You could be right about him being an officer, Rick.
First time I have heard that it is possible to se if it was issued to an officer just by looking at the letter.

I am considering researching one of the four orders below (wish I could afford to research all of them). I am thinking that maybe the patriotic war 1st class would be best but it would be nice to hear opinions from other collectors that have already researched awards.
How do I research them and how much will it approximately cost?
Anything special I have to think of? Translation of the research?
All help are greatly appreciated.

I think that they should be pre 1945 awards.
Order of glory Nr. 155631
Order of the great patriotic war 1st cl Nr. 168347
With document. One second class 328704 is also listed.
Order of the great patriotic war 2nd cl Nr. 283104
With document. Military merit medal 1869817 and Red star 1102750 are also listed.
Order of the red banner Nr. 258521
Let me know if You want me to post any pictures.

And the Odessa.

Here are two Red Banners to the same recipient. Why did he convert both to screwback, then unconvert them? Hopefully research will tell us!
Dave
You got a very nice group there.
If I am to guess... I would think that he cut them off after leaving the army. Maybe he did not want to make holes in his clothes.
Here are two more medals that at some point lost their original rings. One Belgrade and one Odessa.

You are probably right Rusty.
I do not have much experience with these, this is the fist and only one I have ever owned. But I am quite stubborn and not completely convinced.
I realise the first pictures I posted were quite bad so here are two more for everyone.
Happy collecting

That's missing enamel.
Rusty.
The "boxes" are in level with the letters. The die they used must have either broken or been defective.

A very interesting topic with many nice objects! Thanks for sharing them.
Here is my small contribution. An Order of Glory with replaced pin, nothing special really but I like it.
And it looks like the boxes under the letters "C" and "B" would be some kind of error in the manufacturing process?

That would be great. Thanks

I agree with Jeff. It looks French... But it is not a French ribbon (colors don't correspond to anything French except the "M?daille d'honneur de la Jeunesse et des Sports" in gold, which is not a realistic guess, here).
Ch.
I am sure You are right but could You please tell me some more about the "M?daille d'honneur de la Jeunesse et des Sports" medal? Why is it not realistic? I don't know much about French medals.

Thank You all for Your replies.
Very interesting that it could have been awarded to a European. Too bad these are not numbered like Soviet awards.
Here is one thing I didn't mention before but is quite interesting. It seems like another award was attached to the orders ribbon. It was sewn to the order by orange thread. Wear marks on the order indicates this too.
I will upload a picture of the reverse.

and another one.

Hi!
I?m still waiting for my copy of Orders and Medals of Japan and Associated States, perhaps the answer to my question will be there, but it never arrives!
Please, any help will be greatly appreciated.
Is the rosette on the ribbon an old type? I have so far never seen one like this before. It is about 29mm in diameter. It has the same blue colour as the ribbon.

This kind of rosette was for "special membership". I don't know what differs special from normal membership.
Here is mine, mounted.
