I know absolutly nothing about Austrian Orders & Medals, so please excuse my ignorance. Did Austria have anything comparable to the Hindenburg Cross following the First World War? How about Hungary?

It's a beautiful display. Makes me embarrassed to show of my stuff.

Are they plastic or metal?

Slacks instead of kilts for a Highland Regement? Interesting.

QUOTE (JimZ @ Mar 25 2008, 03:40 ) With the glory series being instituted in 1943 it isinded a possibility. Alhough you'd still wonder - why not a red star or two?
It would certainly seem so.
Wrong side of the uniform, or was the negative developed backwards?

My opinion - do not waste your time trying to replace the ribbon - don't buy the piece. Hold out, and buy yourself a cased award with the original ribbon and rosette. You will be able to find one, they are not all that uncommon. Again, just my opinion - but I like complete, original pieces.
Agreed. If you're going to spend your hard-earned cash, spend it on the best that you can lay your hands on.

Hi Nick. I try.
How's "High Holy Week" gone so far?
Dan
So far pretty dismal. Too many coyotes & a deadlined truck. So far I've only fired my rifle to zero it in. :speechless:

I do not say any picture attached.
Kevin in Deva.
I screwed something up on this posting. Check the next one. With Dan Watson's help, I got it right that time.

Nick... hope you don't mind but here it is a bit bigger.
Nice find! And can't beat the price!
Dan
Thanks for enlarging it, Dan. You know what a putz I am with computers. And yeah; the price can't be beat. I'll bring it to DL when we get the chance.

This was a freebee that I got at a yard sale. Not exactly one of Tom Custer's Medals of Honor, but still an interesting piece of our history.

There is a very good discussion on WAF http://70.87.163.50/...ad.php?t=429755 concerning these crosses. Jim
Thank you very much, Jim! I learned a lot more about these crosses than I knew this morning.

Almost 6200 people haunt this forum, and no on knows anything about these?

I've still got mine, hanging on my dogtag chain, with the dogtags, around the neck of a stuffed Garfield toy that I gave my wife when we first got married.

All of the above mentioned generals were good in their own right, but for the most accomplished with the least amount of casualties, the brass ring has to go to Dugout Doug MacArthur.

My Friedlander is nice, but yours really takes the cake. Very very nice.

The US Armys loss in my humble opinion.

I agree. Some things should just be left alone.

I am looking for information on the post-war EK's that were made for the vets from the Blue Division. For instance, who made them? Are there any manufacturing hallmarks that one can look for? How does one tell a real one from a fake? The ones I have seen look like they were made in a high school shop class in Rangoon. How long after the war were they produced? What is a reasonable price to ask for a genuine one? I remember asking these questions once before on another forum and the response was underwelming, so any information I could get now would be greatfully appreciated.
Thanks.

I was going through my storage safe the other day and came across this piece. I acquired it several years ago before cased pieces started bringing such a premium, mainly because I thought that the "extra" included was interesting. It is what appears to be an old spent soft lead bullet attached to a silk string. Perhaps the EK wasn't his only "souvenir" of France.
If you have a pal on the local police dept., ask them if they can put some luminal on the bullet. If there are any red blood cells on it, they should light up under a black light. Just a thought.

Your points about vets is dead on, Chris. Like any other group of people, some are the salt of the earth and others you wouldn't let in your house or trust them to babysit your kids.

Good thought, Greg. Since I have several confirmed fakes sitting in my tackle box, I'll hold off on making more jigs. Thanks for your time and answer.

I was looking through my "toy box" this afternoon, and I found some old badges from the East German GST orginazition. Are these worth hanging onto,or should I just solder some fishhooks to them and toss them into my tacklebox?

My Austrian awards

Pretty spiffy, Dan. The Austrians seem to have been a bit more ostentatious than the Prussians. Catholic vs. Lutheran, perhaps?
