    1. Recently I acquired an Ostvolk 2nd/class with swords. All I have to go on as to the color of the award is the ribbon, which if you believe it, would indicate that it is in the gold class.

My question is, it looks as though the "gold" finish was never applied to the medal. Not just worn off, never applied. Has anyone ever run into this in the past? I'll be happy to post or email pics if necessary.

    2. Hello Mr. Hzenba,

      In response to your enquiry,

Hello, Mr Hauptmann! I've never seen 2nd class Ostvolk Medal. This photo really surprised me since one of the ribbon is very similar to the Japanese kite medal, with one stripe over green. Another point I want to ask is the circular design done by Mr. Elmar Lang. Is this the same person at the Institute of Biophysics, at University of Regensburg in Germany? If so, does this medal stands? for unification? of the Aryan race? given to Russians?

      Dear Mr. Hzenba,

in response to your inquiry, until recently I had never seen an Ostvolk Medal of any kind. Nor do I know anything about Herr Lang, other than that he did design the award. My knowlege is pretty much limited to the fact that it was awarded to Soviet citizens who fought for the Germans, and was awarded with swords for valor and without swords for merit. I don't know that the Aryan race had anything to do with it specifically, but I could be wrong. Thanks for looking at the awards, and please check out the other awards that I've posted from my recently acquired grouping. Nick.

    3. I found the Panzer badge. You have one heck of a grouping!

Can you post an overview shot of all of his bringbacks here too, as they are a part of the grouping?

I can, but it'll be a day or two off. The older I get the less time I have to do anything.

    4. ...The "ruptured duck" lapel button is perhaps proof that the original recipient of these awards and insignia pieces was more interested in getting discharged on time instead of hunting down another ribbon for a uniform he never planned to wear again.

I know the feeling! Thanks for the input. Nick.

    5. Well, Gents (and ladies), here is what I have for documentation on Mr. Maitland Lifsey, late of the US 3rd. Infantry Division. All in all I think that this is a very nice grouping for a vet. (A lot nicer than what I was able to bring back from Vietnam). Mr. Livsey also brought back a number of German awards that are posted in various places on the forum, including a 25 Panzer assault badge and an anti-partisan badge. Please take a look at all of it.
