    1. Hello, Anyone who can decipher the Poland battle entry's ? I can decipher so far: 01.09 bis 04.09.1939: K?mpfe ?m Graudenz 09.09 bis 10.09.1939: K?mpfe ?m ? ????? 12.09.1939: Czerwony-Bor 15.09 bis 18.09.1939: K?mpfe um Bialystok u. Ostw?rts Based on the fact that he was assigned towards the I.R.3 at that time, the above battles are correct => seems that the troops had heavy losses already in Poland. Losses for the I.R 3 during the poland campaign : 39 K.I.A. 112 Wounded 4 M.I.A. I wonder iff his wound was also counted in these numbers ? , he was not entitled to receive the wound badge anyway for this one? Cordial greetings,
    2. Hello, Very good thread for sure, altough i am not a imperial collector (i do buy some of the nice enamelpieces sometimes iff it is quite in my collecting field) i do recognize the phenomena. I normally collect German glider pilot related material as my main collecting interest (award documents, awards, etc ...) , and have also encountered some groups that where either growing or reducing over the time. I formyself will never let a grouping grow when for example i do have 5 award documents from the same person and only 2 awards. It is something different with award documents (and much easier offcoarse) as these are named, etc ... Sadly splitting up grouping does happen day after day, i am still looking for 2 award documents (2 different groupings) that where split of simply for the money. Who is now responsible for the splitting up?, well that is a very hard question as i think both collectors, dealers and even the veterans and their family do it. Let me explain a bit more; i have also already encountered that i had the luck to receive the medals directly from a veteran, however he wants to keep his award documents. So the group gets split up. Iff for example i do not reach the goal of getting the award documents and he (the veeteran) does decease then the following problem comes into sight. Either the family thows that damn stuff away or it does get in the hands of the reseller. !!!! So the chances of reuniting the grouping are really minimal and getting a complete one is a very hard thing, but the line is very thin and makes you think. Anyway my personal collecting ethics are that i never ever will splitt a grouping. Cordial greetings,
    3. Hello, Never heard that before, but sounds like a human deed. I guess we will never know why officially he only spent approx. 3 months as POW. However thank you for the info Cordial greetings,
    4. Hello Kev, Nice thread => here is my one and only addition, but nevertheless a nice one (all do is say it myself ) combination from: 1) Sachsen - Albrechtsorden (Ritter 2 e Klasse) 2) Preussen - Eisernes Kreuz 2 e Klasse Cordial greetings,
    5. Hello, As for the ribbon => it was woven this way, very nice indeed. The nice thing about the ribbon and the saxons verus the Prussians makes it possible to use it in a mutiple way, namely : A) Saxon order first (green left) and EK last (reight) B) other way arround. Multiple use (or am i totally wrong ? ), knowing the saxons it would not suprise me to see the Saxon one inw ear first. Cordial greetings,
    6. Hello, @ Hendrik: indeed => but it is a good sign you have found the small mistake, no problem offcoarse at all @ Avitas: each collector has its portion of luck for sure, so i am certain and i do hope you might be lucky also in the future. Thank you both for the comments. ps: hendrik, you might see this small grouping pop-up one day at a SKF meeting in the form of eitehr a presenatation or a article
    7. Hello, Thank you for the comments, here we have the reverse of the Albrechtsorden. As we can see it is a rather dirty and never cleaned IMHO. Cordial greetings,
    8. Hello, Thank you Gordon for starting this very nice thread. I do wisch to forward the readers of this towards the following link: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4883&hl=S+&+L There the readers cans ee a original sample board from the company of S & L. in regards towards civil glider badges. Note the Logo, etc ... Cordial greetings,
    9. Hello, Love this thread, well here is one that arrived recently (see also the following link: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=8112 ) It is quite dirty, but has the maker mark G (the seller said it was 9) on the lower arm. So a Glaser & Sohn i assume? Can anyone confirm this? Cordial greetings,
    10. Hello, And the cherry that go's with the cake => the entry of the cufftitle Cordial greetings,
    11. Hello, Thank you noth fine gentlemen, i drink one upon more such discovery's and might each one of you have the same luck one day and find a untouched grouping Indeed, indeed counting the Kurland in does make 8, however as he was also a holder of the "Reichssportabz. Bronze" that would make 9 (sad thing for me is that i do not have a award date for this one). Well here is another entry Cordial greetings,
    12. Hello, And finally the Knightscross with swords from the Albrechtsorder (Sachsen), it is sewn directly onto a piece of ribbon. In fact this one has gathered some real dirt over the years. The swords (normally gilded) are looking like normally sivered and heavy patinated ones with corrossion. Gently brushing with some cloth and a wooden toothpicker does get of very easely the dirt and underneath some of its old golden shine comes again to live. (i will not remove the patina, however the dirt must dissapear in order to prevent corrosion IMHO) The underarm has a maker mark, the seller said it was a 9, i rather go for a G. Cordial greetings,
    13. Hello, And here we have the large medal bar => the ribbons are still quite clean, the EK however shows mutiple rust places and needs a cleaning for sure in order to prevent it to degenerate further. Me liky that there is no Hindenburgcross present Cordial greetings,
    14. Hello, And here we have a closer look at the comination ribbon (normal size) from both the EK 2 and the Saxon Albrechtsorden. Never had such one before => really nicely woven it seems. This was to be worn through the buttonhole. Cordial greetings,
    15. Hello, And now lets go towards his awards as entered in the WP. Cordial greetings,
    16. Hello, Here is anotehr small grouping that made it into my collection, not the biggest bravery medal or real rare gongs to find here => however some nice eneamelwork as awarded during WW1 towards the lower officer ranks (Leutnant or Oberleutnant) Cordial greetings + more to follow
    17. Hello, Here are some more battle pages @ this grouping comes directly from his direct family (you have to search into the son, daughter region ), they have no interets at all in this stuff. and i was lucky to know a few veterans in there area who have known the soldier. Thats how i ended up with these persons etc ... and finally the grouping did make it into my collection (took me over a year). Hint: the good lookers will see the relation of how i ended up with these persons, there is clear tip on the show pages He earned a total of 7 awards (alle entered in the WP !!!) => only 2 of these survived untill these days (being the KVK & class and the Kurland cuff) , so stay tuned Cordial greetings,
    18. Hello, And as we can see, he did manage to survive the war and went into battle on : 01.09.1939 and did make it through untill 08.05.1945 (where he went into captivity according towards his family => i do doubt this date as he should have been only less then 3 months in Russian captivity, and knowing the Russians they rather had the use of keeping these POW a bit longer. I think he might have been able somehow to escape captivity and make it back towards Germany.) He went through: 1) Poland (1939) 2) France (1940) 3) Russia (1941-1945) Here is his first page with battleentry's. (all help in deciphering is offcoarse very welcome ) Cordial greetings,
    19. Hello, This person did earn the following awards during his wartime periode : Here we have his units => as we can see he was a proffesional soldier and volunteered in 1934 + did go through the complete war as started against Poland in 1939. More to follow ... Cordial greetings,
    20. Hello, Thank you both fine gentlemen for the reactions => i also like it very much and i do propose to learn who this recipient was, etc ... and lets kick off with the picture as found in his Wehrpass. We do see our Oberfeldwebel in full award dress and look how nicely the war merit cross does shine on his breast besides the Infantery Assault badge. More to follow ... Cordial greetings,
    21. Hello, And here we have the KVK 1 e Klasse with Swords. It is a nice worn Tombak piece and bears the maker mark : L/11 (Deumer / L?denscheid). Cordial greetings,
    22. Hello, ANd here we have the reverse => it is quite grey from colour (instead of white => dirty ?) + not one as mostly encountered (machinewoven). Cordial greetings,
    23. Hello, And here we have the center piece => crude but lovely at the very same time The award date (as entered in the WP was 20.04.1945). This cuff. was folded all the time in the inside of teh Wehrpass. Cordial greetings,
    24. Hello, Here is a grouping i just collected from the postal office. This small grouping is obtained directly from the veterans family. More to follow => detailed information, for certain a novum for my humble collection as i never tought (and cerainly never trusted a Kurland cufftitle as offered on most dealers webpages) i would own a Kurland. But hey => here it is alive and well and i am the first one to have it after the person who received it Needles to say => me very happy Cordial greetings, ps: more to follow (can take a while)
