Hello, Anyone who can decipher the Poland battle entry's ? I can decipher so far: 01.09 bis 04.09.1939: K?mpfe ?m Graudenz 09.09 bis 10.09.1939: K?mpfe ?m ? ????? 12.09.1939: Czerwony-Bor 15.09 bis 18.09.1939: K?mpfe um Bialystok u. Ostw?rts Based on the fact that he was assigned towards the I.R.3 at that time, the above battles are correct => seems that the troops had heavy losses already in Poland. Losses for the I.R 3 during the poland campaign : 39 K.I.A. 112 Wounded 4 M.I.A. I wonder iff his wound was also counted in these numbers ? , he was not entitled to receive the wound badge anyway for this one? Cordial greetings,

Hello, Very good thread for sure, altough i am not a imperial collector (i do buy some of the nice enamelpieces sometimes iff it is quite in my collecting field) i do recognize the phenomena. I normally collect German glider pilot related material as my main collecting interest (award documents, awards, etc ...) , and have also encountered some groups that where either growing or reducing over the time. I formyself will never let a grouping grow when for example i do have 5 award documents from the same person and only 2 awards. It is something different with award documents (and much easier offcoarse) as these are named, etc ... Sadly splitting up grouping does happen day after day, i am still looking for 2 award documents (2 different groupings) that where split of simply for the money. Who is now responsible for the splitting up?, well that is a very hard question as i think both collectors, dealers and even the veterans and their family do it. Let me explain a bit more; i have also already encountered that i had the luck to receive the medals directly from a veteran, however he wants to keep his award documents. So the group gets split up. Iff for example i do not reach the goal of getting the award documents and he (the veeteran) does decease then the following problem comes into sight. Either the family thows that damn stuff away or it does get in the hands of the reseller. !!!! So the chances of reuniting the grouping are really minimal and getting a complete one is a very hard thing, but the line is very thin and makes you think. Anyway my personal collecting ethics are that i never ever will splitt a grouping. Cordial greetings,

Hello, As for the ribbon => it was woven this way, very nice indeed. The nice thing about the ribbon and the saxons verus the Prussians makes it possible to use it in a mutiple way, namely : A) Saxon order first (green left) and EK last (reight) B) other way arround. Multiple use (or am i totally wrong ? ), knowing the saxons it would not suprise me to see the Saxon one inw ear first. Cordial greetings,

Hello, And finally the Knightscross with swords from the Albrechtsorder (Sachsen), it is sewn directly onto a piece of ribbon. In fact this one has gathered some real dirt over the years. The swords (normally gilded) are looking like normally sivered and heavy patinated ones with corrossion. Gently brushing with some cloth and a wooden toothpicker does get of very easely the dirt and underneath some of its old golden shine comes again to live. (i will not remove the patina, however the dirt must dissapear in order to prevent corrosion IMHO) The underarm has a maker mark, the seller said it was a 9, i rather go for a G. Cordial greetings,

Hello, Here are some more battle pages @ this grouping comes directly from his direct family (you have to search into the son, daughter region ), they have no interets at all in this stuff. and i was lucky to know a few veterans in there area who have known the soldier. Thats how i ended up with these persons etc ... and finally the grouping did make it into my collection (took me over a year). Hello, And as we can see, he did manage to survive the war and went into battle on : 01.09.1939 and did make it through untill 08.05.1945 (where he went into captivity according towards his family => i do doubt this date as he should have been only less then 3 months in Russian captivity, and knowing the Russians they rather had the use of keeping these POW a bit longer. I think he might have been able somehow to escape captivity and make it back towards Germany.) Hello, Here is a grouping i just collected from the postal office.This small grouping is obtained directly from the veterans family. More to follow => detailed information, for certain a novum for my humble collection as i never tought (and cerainly never trusted a Kurland cufftitle as offered on most dealers webpages) i would own a Kurland. But hey => here it is alive and well and i am the first one to have it after the person who received it Needles to say => me very happy Cordial greetings, ps: more to follow (can take a while)
