Hi Greg,
Heres that mini in wear, got two of these with the wings and those little eagles.
All Yuris stuff. I'm guessing this pic was taken 1920-25.

Heres a pic.
I tried to scan but it was so small, your can still make out the small eagle mounted to his piloka cap.
I'm guessing he wore these on his cap during the civil war instead of the imperial cockard.

George,
Your grandfathers pilot wings are a beauty and very rare. Trivia : The smaller shoulder board insignia was nicknamed by pilots as "The Black Fly".
Hi Greg,
Here are three real small eagles two silver one gold..
Are these Fleas!

Hi Eugene,
Do you think the gold 56 mark is good?
I also have not seen one stamped in that way.
Just looks a little odd to other examples i've seen and handled
Again the cross itself looks ok.
Just the 56 mark dosent feel right.
Same with the odd 84 silver mark on the star..
Just never came acroos them stamped in that way..
Do you have other examples you can share?
Thanks for your input..

Great collection Greg.
I dont seem to have a problem with your attached photos?
I dont upload my pics to the forum. I use Photobucket as my link.

Here a comparable Keibel star center.
See the difference in the wording, Three pieces.
Not one continuous circle.
the roping around the star is finer, though this just may be the picture.
and the maker mark has a funny looking silver proof.
This is not my star, Dont know where I lifted these from. Sorry to the owner.

I like the cross. As Regal said the Star looks bad.

Again another understudied field of WW1 study.
Everyone knows Germany, Austria, France even Turkey..
But WW1 Russian provisional Government pilots wings..
Got to be the rarest of them all.

Thats exactly how I feel when I get a new piece.
These pieces have so much old history, Just think a 200yr or 100yr anniversity badge for a regiment.
200 yrs! third reich items just dont stand a chance to that kind of history.
Its so hard to find a personalize piece. Named jetons civil or military are some of my favorites..

Love em'
Cant wait until i can get some boards like that.
Still learning about badges, uniforms and boards are even more complicated.
Every time a neww book comes out i get it, weather i can read it or not.
As Chris said Welcome and Thanks for all the insight.

HI Greg,
Was the finish on front and back are the same a rose pink color.
I enhance my photos to bring out details..the colors suffer..
With the deep concaive badges its hard to get a focused shot.
And boy are you right..the fakes are getting better and better.
Its been tough finding awards, badges etc that you dont second guess yourself at.
i've slowed down a bit and try to only purchase when i can handle the badge first.
And never never buy from overseas unless i know the dealer/collector.
Please keep posting we can all learn from your experience..
Thanks

Hi Greg,
Heres a couple better shots of the badge in question..
Its a Forestry school badge all gilt silver.
Pictures make it look shinier that it really is.

The reverse shows the multi piece construction.
