Hi,
both are worn nowadays , in former days only metal.
There are different kind of embroidered.
The official ones ZDv 37/10 http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Schulterklappen-Sani-Marine-Navy-Stabsarzt-gold-oliv-getragen-1748-/00/s/MTM0NVgxNjAw/z/jC8AAOSwq7JT03au/%24_35.JPG, a little stripe with the aeskulap.
and the non official http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Schulterklappen-Rangabzeichen-Sani-Luftwaffe-Stabsarzt-weiss-Flecktarn-1034-/00/s/MTMwOFgxNjAw/z/Y7MAAOxygPtS325F/%24_35.JPG, which the soldiers pay by theirself.

Hi,
according to the topic "Army doctor ..." ... well these are rank insignias of a 2nd and a 1st lieutenant.
These are officiers of the medical corps, maybe "army doctor" cadetts who are in their university education with aesculapian insignia. Or older soldiers coming from the NCO´s ranks.
The German Army doctor has the rank insignia of a captain, and gets the German pay grade A 13 of a major.
Hauptmann with aesculapian insignia - Stabsarzt - pay grade A 13 as major
Major with aesculapian insignia - Oberstabsarzt - A 14 as Lieutenant colonel
Lt. Col. with aesculapian insignia - Oberfeldarzt - A 15 as Lieutenant colonel (superior pay grade)
Colonel with aesculapian insignia - Oberstarzt - A 16 as Colonel

Hi,
I think you know that there are only three insignias without flag.
In my opinion (I do not know it exactly) the older ones are still wearing their "Without flag" insignia, because it looks better. But I do not know what the ZDv 37/10 says.
Here the most soldiers of the German-French-Brigade wear the French type without the flag, mostly because this insignia is made in chrome-style. The chef-en-second once told me, that he wears the French and the commander, a French, wears the German with flag, because of showing their respect to each other.

Hi there,
this is the badge of an colonel, I took this photo 2014 at the Swiss 2-day-march.
He told me that the badge is from the 1970s, when he enlisted.

Hi
the medals are from left to right Croix du combattant, Medaille coloniale, Croix du combattant volontaire, Medaille commemorative Indochine.
Unfortunately I cannot say if they are "zeitgenössische Originale".

Yes, this is the MICECI medal from the ECOWAS.
MICECI = Mission de CEDEAO en Cote d´Ivoire
ECOWAS (engl.)/CEDEAO(french) = Economic Community of West African States/Communauté économique des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest,
Awarded 2003-04, MICECI then turned into MINUCI and ONUCI, later supported by French Opération Licorne.

Hi Larry,
I do have a uniform regulation from the French army, dated 2005.
There it is not shown.
The bagde do look like a French one, maybe it is an older one not longer worn.

Hi,
yes, my father-in-law received the 2nd class as a colonel, but not for his military deeds, but for his activity as attaché during his time in Japan.

Hi Paul,
these two pictures I took last weekend at the Swiss 2 day March.
The Oberstabsarzt told me, that he wears the non official rank slides. Well, that is the reason I wanted to take a photo for a collector friend I told him.
